Exactly. I mentioned it based primarily on the basis of perceived work opportunity reasons.
I know of someone (friend of a friend) who did you described - based in Singapore for a high end job, and travelled extensively to everywhere else you'd want to in neighboring countries.
Doesn't mean to exclude anywhere else but my hunch is that is where jobs in the OP's field are - Sing., Shanghai, Hong Kong, or similar.
OP: Would it make sense to do your PhD at this stage?
