I have a friend who I bet could offer a very frank assessment of this discussion, but alas, he's in prison about 200km east of Sao Paulo and they don't offer internet service. He's just finished year two of a scheduled 8-year drug-related-holiday and reports that he finally obtained one of the four beds in his 6 man "suite" - having spent the past two years sleeping on the concrete floor. Good news is that the "ass-rapping" bit is not accurate. They put the foreigners in a special prison and violence is not an issue. If he had $50,000usd he could have bought his way out after a year or so - but, besides having bad judgement, he's also broke. So, he'll certainly be fluent in Portugues when they put him on a plane and deport him in 6 short years.
