It's entertainment that takes you out of the drudgery of the real world for a short period of time. And like any other vice moderation is the key.
For realz. I'm ADHD, and video games help me when I get spun up. I've know 3 people that got addicted to MMORPG's. 1 chick lost her job from coming in late to work. 1 dude estimated that in hours, had wasted full 1 year on WoW. That's almost 9K hours to put it in perspective.
And then there is my bro. Holy shit. He started back in the 90's when those games were still text based. GMUD or something. It got way worse with him with the introduction of Evercrack and then WoW. He was pretty deep in that shit for around a decade. I mean every moment he wasn't at work was in front of the monitor. He would fall asleep in his recliner waiting for all his little friends to get together and kill a dragon. I would be afraid to know how many hours he logged in.
I can't stand p2p games, and almost never play a game twice. I'll go 6 months sometimes without picking up a controller. Shit, I felt guilty after logging in 124 hours on FFXII.
