Hipsters

Hipsters

You're wrong. They're standing up against the expectation of contributing to society, working, and grooming.

a lot of these guys work hard, most I know are poor as shit and underemployed imho for their ages and educations. You hear the whole trustafarian thing thrown out there but thats as representative as the entire population, few if any I know come from wealthy families. As much as we can ponder this phenomenon, I think it just boils to people wanting to dress and act cool, there is no 'revolution' going on these days. Originality is on the decline though, and I think the true hipsters these days are truly the freaks and artists not unlike Perry Farrell circa 1989, Andy Warhol, Lou Reed, etc, that look nothing like your bearded lumberjack kid making denim jeans in the back of a bicycle shop

In the past at least there was an actual 'counter culture' element where people were actually standing up to something, Vietnam, Reagan era, etc, now its all about aesthetic

Counter-culture will never die as long as there is something "uncool" to rebel against like the trappings of banal, suburban middle-class existence. In the 90s it was grunge and everyone cool was wearing ripped 2nd hand jeans and flannel. In the 80s it was punk and goth, 70s I don't know, 60s hippies, 50s beatniks. Right now it's hipsterdom. Ten years from now it will evolve into something else.

I don't really mind hipsters. At they at least listen to some good music.
