Yeah, sounds like they tried to run one over on you. I can't imagine the group of people that would even think to add you into the group splitting the bill in that situation.
If people are having drastically different amounts of food and drink, that's probably time to run your own tab. Either that or just throw in your share plus a few extra bucks for good measure and bounce.
