Well, I wasn't there. The way I read it, you came across as kind of aspie and tone deaf to what she was communicating to you.
She offers you the hug, take it. Put your face a very small distance above her head and smell her hair, breathe it in. Tell her she smells good.

Game is selling and persuasion. There's a phrase about sales: "sell the sizzle and not the steak". Your actions are just repeating over and over again "so, do you want the steak now?". It's not persuasive.
