Bored of the game/hooking up?

What do you do when you are bored of the game, but society is set up so that it's the only game in town?

Build another game.

When you're a teen into your 20s, you backdraft on what social circles others have built. Sometime in your 20s and later, "society" is you, and you're now in charge.

You're being reactive to what's already there. Instead, be proactive and build what you want. Even if it's just committing to reading one book with some other people, then going to brunch at the end of the month to talk about it afterwards.

Hold parties, cookouts, bike rides, wine-after-dinner, come up with some once-a-month event thing that you enjoy but is missing from where you live. Make an effort to do that once a month and invite people to it.

You have two levels of screening --those that you want in your bed, and those good enough to fit in your circle. You find a couple guys you like and share the pool with them. Ideally you all are pulling fresh faces in. You start discovering other people doing this and you flip invites --I'll come to your event if you come to mine.

There's levels above this in terms of building new social circles. None of it is expensive. Just keep it light and easy.

The only skill you need to learn is how to be a host and enforce your house rules. Don't want people texting on phones instead of interacting with others? It's your rule: no texting at your parties. There's an art to gently correcting guests in a way that is low drama, doesn't break the party spirit, and doesn't ruffle feathers. But it's part of learning to be the alpha male in the room.

"Alpha children wear grey. They work much harder than we do, because they're so frightfully clever. I'm awfully glad I'm a Beta, because I don't work so hard. And then we are much better than the Gammas and Deltas. Gammas are stupid. They all wear green, and Delta children wear khaki. Oh no, I don't want to play with Delta children. And Epsilons are still worse. They're too stupid to be able to read or write. Besides they wear black, which is such a beastly color. I'm so glad I'm a Beta."
