Internet culture now

Facebook was more "professional." It was composed of ivy league college students (and then college students in general) and migrated from a way to share parties and pictures among students into the mainstream, as those college students graduated and kept using their facebook accounts to keep up with friends. Pretty soon high schoolers and everybody else wanted to use it, too.

Agreed. Myspace was mostly used by scene kids and lot of the bro type people. It was a much more low-brow crowd. Facebook brought in the more upper class, SWPL people who would later go on to be part of the "hipster" internet culture that I was complaining about. If you have a Facebook, take a look at the newfeed compared to what you would see posted on the Myspace bulletins back in the hey day of Myspace. From I remember of Myspace it was a lot of silly chain letter posts, club promoters and bands trying to whore themselves out, and just general tackiness. Facebook is all about posting up links to articles to make yourself look educated and well read, statuses where people try too hard to be hip and ironic - basically your stand SWPL stuff.
