No steroids early to mid-20s. Late 20s after 5 years of hard lifting and then it's an option but may not be advisable if androgen levels are good.
That's why lab work is so important. If you have a normal job, you can get your testosterone (total and free t levels) tested during your annual exam.
Get your test levels measured. I got mine measured every year for past 7 years.
That will give you a baseline.
When your baseline drops (and it's not attributable to diet and lifestyle and is not a short-term blip), then taking other means may be appropriate.
