I can give a couple of specific, concrete, personal examples here that challenge some of the fantastic theories being ventilated here:
There were two Romanian girls, whom I was banging, who proposed to join me on two separate trips to North-Western Europe. They obviously covered their own expenses and even went beyond that.
These were elite girls, they had in fact a better financial situation at that time than I had myself. And they were fucking attractive and sexy.
One was the daughter of one of Ceaucescu's international bankers (a hard-core capitalist member of the old communist party top, you might ironically infer...).
The other one was a young doctor, daughter of the director of a provincial hospital who had a private clinic on the side.
Honestly, the only negative impact I perceived when walking around with these girls were the envious eyes that followed us.
Also, as HH rightly mentions, there was no way you could say that they were from some cursed Balkan shithole which you're meant to despise, just by looking at them walk in front of you.
From my circle of friends and acquaintances there was zero reluctance to accept them in social gatherings. Quite the contrary, they raised the bar.
These girls were not only elite in terms of money and looks, they also behaved accordingly, speaking several languages, naturally showing they were highly educated, displaying refined manners and this while being fun girls to be with.
Now, if instead of happily parading with these two Romanian girls I would have showed up in North-Western Europe with a rotating team of cheap gypsy sluts, then, yeah, my experience would have been certainly a lot different.
