Washing soda is sodium carbonate. Baking soad is sodium bicarbonate.
Washing soda is highly alkaline and will irritate or burn skin. Don't put it on your pits!
For those who have experienced irritation with baking soda, I have found that some brands are more powdery and others are grainy like fine sand. The 'softer' powdery variety causes less irritation because you're not exfoliating your pits as you apply it.
