Mr. Robot - new tv show

On the other hand, the "tech" elements are largely intellectually insulting.

It certainly makes an attempt not to dumb down the material, but anyone knows that brute force hacks are old hat and that virtually any modern system has safeguards against repeated password attempts.

I've been watching the Season 1, there are actually many realistic hacks and I found it interesting, especially the social engineering aspect. Yes brute force attacks were stupid and don't work in real life on apps like facebook, and phones cannot be hacked so easily. That irritated me when they put that in the first episodes, but later on we can see some realistic hacks like the dropped USBs containing a msf payload, the Caller ID spoofing, and others I forgot. With tech security becoming harder and harder to break, social engineering is probably the most important aspect of a hacker nowadays. Unless you're a team of Chinese or corporations who can afford Zero-day exploits. For example I hacked my ex-gf's macbook pro remotely (was angry that she blocked me) by luring her with a fake Job interview from Linkedin. Simple reverse tcp payload disguised in a "proprietary company software" and she took the bait. The "hardest" part was to craft the job requirements and creating a realistic linkedin with tons of common connections with the target company.
