Reading this part of the OP made me remember a store employee approach I didn't even do "on purpose" so to speak, it was completely natural.
I was on my way home from a great workout so I was sweaty as hell and looked like shit, but I was feeling amazing and pumped. I passed an electronics store and remembered I needed new earbuds, so I decided fuck it and entered the store despite being in this state. Made a beeline for the earbuds section and immediately asked the girl working there "excuse me, could you point me to the wireless ones" (she had her back turned to me).
When she turned around it turned out she was pretty cute. Her first facial expression was one of bewilderment but also slight curiosity, seeing this dirty ass sweaty looking guy casually shopping. I didn't care and just started rambling about not knowing anything about earbuds and how I needed expert help etc.
Before I knew it I had her trying to explain the differences between several kinds of earbuds, I was making fun of her for not being able to reach the top shelf, I was saying shit like "can't you see I'm in a hurry? I want to start my workout" while it was obvious I was already done working out, and so on.
I think at least 10 minutes passed and we were having the time of our lives laughing and shit. Before I could finish the sentence "we should hang out some time" she literally grabbed my phone out of my hands to enter the digits.
We bantered a bit over text but I never saw her again after that since I was leaving the city the next day. Otherwise this would've been a guaranteed date with a high chance of converting to a lay.
The thing is I am introverted and usually need to make a conscious effort to get myself into the right state when daygaming. In this instance I was still feeling the high from the workout, I was genuinely happy and cheerful and this resulted in a "not a care in the world" attitude.
This made my entire style of approach more natural and genuine. It also made me realize that things are possible regardless of looks or dress style.
