I don't want to derail the thread but my impression of Vietnam:

Locals give you the fake smile with a dagger behind their back and they hate whitey.

There are virtually never any worthwhile business opportunities for foreigners and the place is largely a corrupt hellhole.

Therefore neither integration nor making a lot of money is possible.

Until recently the latter was possible in China and there are still opportunities, although more limited ones.

Chinese people generally respect westerners and will be super happy if you can chit chat in Chinese, which makes integration somewhat easy although you'll never be considered fully Chinese anything but a foreign visitor for obvious reasons.
