I'm probably making a mistake by bumping this thread, but in response to corsega mentioning that he used an AI bot that could figure out (Ex Machina style) what he found attractive I did some reading and this article distills what will probably be the next step in online dating, which should (hopefully) relieve a lot of the timesink aspects for men, although probably not do much to increase actual matches or match-quality.

I read a separate article where one of the executives at Tinder says the same thing, that manual swiping may not be a thing for much longer, but expect Tinder to want to be in control of this as an internal (probably premium) feature.
The bot messaging is more of a gray area because at present that is a situation that tilts the scales towards men. Women would then only be given "phantom" attention during the icebreakers rather than the real deal. Men have been trolled incessantly by bots that sit in front of scammers so we know how that feels. That's probably where the real ethical/legal/hashtag battleground will take place.

As apps truly get better at learning who we like and who we are, they may render swiping, liking, and messaging obsolete.
