The anonymous liking only works when there's a natural overlap between the kinds of women guys swipe vs. the guys women swipe. The 80/20 rule makes sure that overlap is slim to none for your average guy, hence it feels like wasting all your time blindly pulling on the arm of a slot-machine, only with worse odds as a hot chick is not going to ever date down whereas at least a slot machine randomly pays out now and then.
The paid feature above and its equivalent on Bumble provides an opportunity for guys to at least dumpster-dive in hopes of finding a women who passes the boner-test. I had one such date last Friday and it's hard to muster a lot of enthusiasm for these.
re: superlikes- I wouldn't pay for them but they seem to be effective.
