Girl films video of iPhone X, gets dad (Apple engineer) fired.

There is so much to say about that video.

What strikes one first and foremost is the intense pastoral beauty of each and every Silicon Valley setting -- the achieved and utterly taken for granted luxuriousness of every verdant vista, every suburban mall and promenade, every roomy store appointed just so. The airiness and light of the Californian house of today with its endless, sleek and somehow weightless and uncluttered trinkets; the speedy and comfortable car sliding through the freeways, the post-new-age smoothness and solemnity of the Apple campus, the unthinkable abundance of food in the cafeteria, the family sized pizza pie served up by the white Californian dude who works there; the bright and ingenuous miracle of engineering casually offered up for our review and appraisal.

We are sated by these visions of paradise but it is a reality that transcends all fairy tale -- far surpassing the fondest fantasies of human beings from the not-so-distant past. If such a human being from the past were transported at once into this heavenly vision, he would be left standing there, too stunned for tears. He would fall silent.

All this bounty has been created -- not by the whim of deity, but by years and years adding up to decades and centuries of meticulous toil of men exactly like that father, the engineer; and it has been built purposely for the enjoyment and consumption of creatures like that daughter -- who, incidentally, embodies the concept of the BASIC BITCH perhaps more completely than any female that has ever walked the earth. It is fitting to see that the father had to lose his job for this video to see the light of day; it is as if, after all his years of labor, he had to make the ultimate sacrifice -- the final renunciation of the hapless daddy-of-his-daughter -- so that the basic bitch princess might not only enjoy the fruits of his work, but blithely and shruggingly tell the forbidden tale. It's good to see things line up so perfectly -- it's good to see and to nod; to understand.

This is why I won't raise my children to simply enjoy life - I will raise to understand duty and servitude.

The home I provide them - with as much beauty as my wife and I can manage - will be something they work on as well. Not a dwelling maintained by servants, but earned through the diligent chore-performing of all those who are present.

Duty and servitude are how we make ourselves, and the world, better. A life without struggle is not worth living.
