Edit: There's a datasheet on here about participating in "market research" studies and mock trials. You get paid 50-250 for 1.5-8 hours of your time and most have free lunch. Some of them you can do from home. Look them up in the Craigslist "gigs" section. These guys are pretty good, and pay quickly:

How fat is this guy? Is he "MY 600 LB Life" fat. Or is he walk up a flight of stairs and I'm out of breath fat?
If he doesn't hop on the $1 an pound offers, then there's limited hope here. He can earn money from walking around the block a few times a day and drinking water instead of a soda. I'm sure more guys here would kick in $1 a pound if he decided to take the challenge.
If he loses enough weight, he could graduate to riding a bicycle. That would open up more job opportunities(Paper route, handing out fliers).
