As Richard Stallman says, using free software is not about convenience. As a matter of fact, sometimes free software has less functionality and is of lower quality, but its about freedom and freedom requires making sacrifices. So if you cant find a free software alternative to something you normally use, then you simply do without it, or start a project to develop it yourself. At first I thought he was crazy, but now i see the wisdom in his words. With many companies like MS and Adobe not only spying on you with backdoors in them, they are now turning their products into perpetual subscription software. Which means you'll never own a copy, you can just rent it forever. So if you want to use photoshop or lightroom for example, you'll forever have to pay 10 a month. If you have thousands and thousands of photos in the LR catalogue with edits and all that, you're basically screwed and better like the idea of paying forever. Most nonfree software is going that route. Once my mac dies, I will not be buying a new one. I'll only be using my refurbished linux laptop for my personal computing and make do with any limitations or missing features.
