On a semi-related note the tor/darkweb anonymity isn't as bulletproof as people are lead to believe.
The child exploitation sites on the darkweb are regularly taken down by hackers. They are like weeds though and back up a few days later.
The FBI has a bunch of hackers on their payroll or at least doing contract work for them. It's common knowledge in certain circles you can make decent American money doing for hire work for them. Hacking, de-anonymizing darkweb site, taking down darkweb sites etc.

They most likely got the Silk road guy this way. It also wouldn't surprise me if the now passed forum member was taken down in a similar way but the FBI or whomever made up the story about the email address to cover their methods.

Agreed.
Most people are dumb and want Fame AND Fortune. They want everyone to know their rich as to fulfill some sort of ego fantasy.

I used to think if i won the lottery I'd have to go into hiding. I have a pretty unique looking face that's kinda hard to forget and i would have people crawling out of the woodwork looking to get in touch with me.

Simple house with 2 vehicles and some nice toys but nothing your neighbors couldn't afford either, just so you dont stand out.
