Sorry it didn't work out. I do believe that having children is the main reason for marriage and not having any for 15 years, while encouraging her to work on her career - that's a minefield. If she'd had kids, there still may have been a divorce eventually, but likely the marriage would have lasted longer, and at least you would have had kids.
In general I think marriage is a 10 year thing, give or take. It's meant to tie a couple together long enough for the man to provide resources long enough to get a couple of offspring off the launch pad. After a few years, both of you are different people and the whole thing has to be renegotiated. In the absence of strong social and economic pressure to stay together, a lot of the time the relationship will end naturally.
