It probably has something to do with not ending up like Tiger, Kobe, or any other rich, famous dude who has married a commoner and then been taken to the cleaners and back after a divorce.
Even outside of marriage, you see plenty of celebrity guys dating famous women.
There's definitely a huge power difference if you're Tom Brady and she's some cute college co-ed. She'd worship you. I don't see that as a bad thing, but some guys want an 'equal.' They say things like they want a woman who can identify with them and understand them,
Like timoteo said, it may just be circumstance. That's who they meet, and that's who they end up with. Still, if you're a celebrity, you're free to go to your local bar and pick from a crowd. There are also a lot of logistical difficulties, that may make it hard for non-celebs to deal with.
What do we value in a woman? Youth, beauty, and submissiveness. A woman who aims to please. A woman who has time for you whenever you want her. If a famous man wanted to get a woman with those qualities in spades, it seems easier to find it among the commoners, or hell, a foreigner.
