Same here. That's why I was so ticked off at the politicization of keystone. Alaska needs Canada's cooperation to get our gas to market, at least it would make it a lot more economical.
There are so many backwards things caused by over-regulation and resistance to pipelines. The government requires that oil companies produce within a certain time frame to keep their lease. Partly because of the resistance to new pipelines, gas rich fields are forced to pipe their gas to a different part of the field where it's re-injected or flared, in order to meet their obligation to "produce". All of our north slope gas is re-injected or flared, none makes it to market. Meanwhile in other parts of the state, gas shortages have led to heating bills that are almost as much as a mortgage payment. To be fair, global economics play a role and low prices are the primary driver, but when the prices go up other factors like permitting become the driver.
