This is absolutely not idiotic at all, I followed a very similar path many years ago.

At one point in my life I was a 260 pound powerlifter/bodybuilder.
I always had some fucking nagging injury, extreme soreness, aggravating lower back pain, in an "angry" mood, terrible gas tank (tired easily) and even with all that power was still insecure about my ability to handle myself in an altercation.

Fast forward 2+ years and I am the complete opposite of what I was.
I now train exclusively
1) Bodyweight Exercises (Pushups, Planks, Pull Ups, Dips, Leg Lifts, Knee Lifts, Bridges, Squat variations)
2) Mixed Martial Arts (Grappling, Muay Thai, Boxing, Kickboxing)
3) Sprinting, Jogging and Walking
I weigh 170lbs now and look a million times more attractive than I use to.
The changes I have experience are night and day.
No nagging injuries, I feel flexible and light as a feather.
Never get sore anymore, I literally train 7 days a week and still feel like I have limitless energy to spare.
Lower back pain is gone, my lower back feels solid as hell now.
My mood is fantastic, I feel like a cocky arrogant prick 24/7, never angry anymore.
Cardio is on point, I struggle to break a sweat now.
Insecurities about self-defense are completely gone, I'm a savage an animal a BEAST!
My leg kicks, body kicks, teep kicks, elbows, knees, clinches, jabs, hooks, uppercuts, are all fast, accurate and powerful as fuck.

Note: I still do some weightlifting movements, however I don't go heavy, I go very high rep (25+) and I do a lot of Grip training too.
Having a vice like Grip is essential to extremely high self confidence, I have personally found.

Basically, unless you are making money from it - fuck yeah ditch the Powerlifting/Bodybuilding BS pronto.

Just curious, what's your age?
