Very little importance...
I currently drive a 2008 Dodge Avenger that I bought for $7900 CAD. I have a high income from my business and substantial savings. The purchase was 100% based on value (90k Kms, reliable), and luckily it's not a bad looking car either. I think a car is one of the easiest way someone can save money, although if you really love cars, no price is too high if it's what makes you happy.
I would strongly advise not to spend a huge amount of money on a car unless it's a small fraction of your net worth and you really love cars. Personally I'd buy a cheap and reliable car and invest the money saved.
