In the Migrant Crisis thread, we've seen how vehemently opposed certain countries, such as Poland, Czech, Hungary and in general the EE are vehemently against the introduction of Middle Eastern people into their society.
This attitude mirrors Japan.
But is quite opposite to that of Germany and France.
A look at history explains everything.
Many central european countries are and always have been battleground nations or line in the sand focus points for geopolitical struggle. Poland has fought off countless invaders in history some of them quite foreign and from far flung lands. Mongols even made it into their lands back in the days. They are accustomed to having feelings of insecurity and resistance.
Czech and Hungarians have also had a similar history of invasion and being invaded by foreigners. They are hardened by this sort of reality.
In otherwords the EE and central Europe were also the dividing line between the greater european powers and the near east (middle east) and other foreign hordes raiding their lands. They have a firmer grasp on reality based on deeper historical impressions on their culture.
