I was there at Flemington for the 2008 Melbourne Cup.
Put it this way, it will be very hard for you to actually standout in the fashion stakes. It is VERY hard to not feel underdressed.
However as far as gaming, all you have to do is wait.
For those of you who have been to Kuta or Phuket, or Australia Day (Jan 26) in a place like London, you will know Aussie chicks.
It will not matter if they have spent $10,000 on their dress, or if daddy spent $30k per year for private school, come 4pm, they will all be walking around with no shoes, they will all have grass stains on their dress, a lot will be lurched over a garbage bin or in a toilet throwing up will a friend holding their hair back.
Melbourne chicks also tend to be the Australian version of DC chicks, chubby and attempting to be witty and ironic.
However the last decade has seen them feel that getting laid during Spring carnival is a right of passage.
The thursday event, Oakes day as for a long time been christened 'ladies day'. recently it ha been nicknamed 'Blokes* day'.
A 'bloke' is interchangable with man or guy in Australian colloquialism. It seems to be if they haven't got laid on derby day or Melbourne cup day, they have to fulfil this right of passage by then.
Don't fall for it being a classy, high end fashion affair.
It is still feral aussie slags.
Like Obama said, lipstick on a pig.....
