Original vs. Generic Printer Cartridges - Guriko - 07-18-2018

Until now I've always bought original printer cartridges but due to their high prices I've been wondering to make a switch to generics.

I've done some preliminary research on the internet where the consensus seems to be that they are a much cheaper and 'usually' do not cause harm to the printer, short or long term.

Wanted to ask you guys what's your experience with generics, should I try them out, does anyone have working experience with them or should I stay with originals in order to preserve my machine?

Have a wonderful day,

Guriko

Unless you are running a high $$$ MFD then just buy the cheap shit. Typical consumer home office desktop printers don't have a crazy long lifespan to begin with, so putting chinese-made generic cartridges in them isn't going to do much in my opinion.

I'm currently experimenting with cheapies for a newer HP Officejet AIO printer, it probably doesn't matter which generic you buy from eBay other than a few quirks in operation.

Almost all inkjet printers have chips on the cartridges that the printer uses to see if they're genuine. So far the one I bought worked, they just complain of being empty and the ink level meter doesn't work for that one. For about a buck more there are some on eBay claiming to have "new advanced chip" maybe that means ink level works. I'll be getting one of those next.

Overall though the quality of printouts are fine, these guys are putting in the same type of ink that HP uses, it's just a racket so they can keep making money long after they sell you the printer. Just remember to run an extra cleaning cycle after installing them and also run alignment.
