Christmas Carols and Christmas Clips - Laska - 12-03-2017

This thread is for traditional Christmas carols, and also for video clips along the lines of A Charlie Brown Christmas.

Merry Christmas!

This happens to be my favorite version of "O Holy Night." I happened across it randomly flipping through channels when it was live. I'm glad I did. The arrangement is great. His voice is incredible and clear. The pianist really nails the runs. The build up to the end is well worth it. 10/10 would listen to on repeat.

Thanks for sharing.

Here's a traditional organ arrangement:

Here's a clip of Jimmy Stuart playing a humble old custodian, and he starts to day dream about the birth of Christ:

Christmas ain't Christmas without some Nat King Cole.

Damn, this is going to make me all sentimental now.

Oh and Josh Groban. He did a phenomenal job with O Holy Night. He hits those notes in a real powerful way. It's a very moving song. Watching this gives me chills everytime.

DJ-Matt, you sure know how to bring the Christmas spirit!

It's not a carol, but sounds like one. From Russia:

Wow what a great thread. I attend high school in the heart of religious Texas, so the secularist mob hasn't shat upon our choir program yet. We just had our Christmas Concert in which we performed multiple choruses from George Frideric Händel's Messiah. Let me just tell you that it is a timeless masterpiece. It's 2 and half hours long, but if you're looking for something through which to truly worship God this season, I recommend "For Unto Us a Child is Born," "Glory to God," "And He Shall Purify," "And the Glory of the Lord" and, of course, the Hallelujah Chorus (if you like bass solos, "Thus Saith the Lord" and "But Who May Abide the Day of His Coming" are exceptional). I never experienced anything like I did performing Messiah on stage this week. Händel was an absolute genius, and in my opinion, is highly underrated. He wrote Messiah in only three weeks. We also sang O Come, O Come Emanuel which I saw posted. In any case, I've always loved Messiah, but never had the opportunity to perform it. I highly recommend listening to it in full. And if you're a singer, I highly recommended finding a volunteer choir to sing it with some time. It will move you.

Edit: it would be a crime if Vivaldi's Gloria In Excelsis Deo wasn't posted (sorry idk how to embed videos on mobile): https://youtu.be/zhhYIZJj6rk

^^The Messiah isn't Handle's best Oratorio by a mile, but still, Christmas wouldn't be Christmas without it:

"Again a case of reality looking like an Onion article. But let's look at it a little deeper.

Society declines gradually.

The first mistake the UK society made here was getting the idea that Christmas is about "bumping under mistletoe with a special someone" and not about celebrating the birthday of the savior Jesus Christ (or winter solstice in pagan tradition).

After that it's all downhill. Once the society forgets it's roots and reasons for it's traditions and just treats them as another excuse for fornication that society is lost. Inevitably women gain power as the perceived sex symbols and if sex is bought into every celebration and aspect of culture that aspect of culture gets feminized and corrupted. Once women get power they cry rape as power card and means to get attention, males become marginalized, the sexes become hostile to each other, birth rates pummel and a stronger patriarchal alien horde takes over.

I cringe whenever I hear a romantic Christmas love song in a mall or on radio. All these songs are signs of cultural degeneracy. Christmas songs should not be about love and special someones. That's what most other songs are about anyway. Can't people stop obsessing about their genital needs at least for Christmas? Christmas songs should be about baby Jesus or Christmas tree and white snow. About the sacrosanct nature of that day - a day to ascend over mundanity of earthy things like work, money, romantic love, sex, politics and similar. But if people make it all about sex 24/7/365 it's game over for them as human beings - they are monkeys again."

The above is a brilliant post written by Mage in a different thread. It's such a shame to barely hear any Christian Christmas music/hymns even on supposed Christian radio stations. And the hymns I do hear, are completely butchered trying to make them sound with a modern tune.

I've really come to appreciate the more minor-key Christmas carols over the past few years. Here's a great version of O Come O Come Emmanuel by Josh Garrels.
