Keypad for IPad: Opinions? - PeruLover12 - 05-11-2015

I'll be traveling a lot this summer and writing a book at the same time. I have a HP laptop that I use at home but is too heavy to lug about on my trip. I also own an IPad which is far more convenient however writing a lot on the screen keypad is impossible. So I'm considering buying a wireless keypad to use with it. I have however never used this set up before. Has anybody here used this set up and is it responsive and easy to use? Also any recommendations on what keypad?

Thanks.

Yes have used. If you know how to pair Bluetooth devices then you will have no problems setting it up. I bought a Logitech keyboard (portable size). You can also buy any full-size Bluetooth keyboard, but of course it takes more space. They look to be about $15-25 on Amazon.

A relative gifted me an offbrand keyboard off Home Shopping Network (I cannot find any trace of it on Amazon or even on the supposed manufacturer's website) that has two tight pincers that let you adjust the angle safely to use on lap, plane, car. The keys feel fragile so I'll probably go back to the smooth-typing Logitech (where you get one insecure angle) soon enough, but the concept is nice. If this design rings a bell with anyone, let me know please.

This guy is a professional programmer who used an ipad + mac bluetooth compact keyboard for 1 year for his job.

I've used a setup similar to this before and had good success.

Thanks for the feedback gents. I'll go with a Logitech as Menace suggested since the Linode 512 is not for sale here in the UK seemingly. At £45 it's more expensive than I would ideally like however my other option was to buy a MacBook Air which would have cost £800 so it's ok.

In full-size keyboards, I can recommend the "ThinkPad Compact Bluetooth Keyboard with TrackPoint".

I had something called a Zaggfolio for my ipad. It was great. Super compact, very simple, light and very long battery life. It broke in 6 months when some beach sand got into it. The hinges cracked and came apart. Worth checking out though.

What apps on ipad are you guys using abroad and on trips to either do work or maximize productivity?

I definitely recommend Google Maps, skype, Dropbox, Expensify.

Are you using a regular-sized iPad or mini?

I just bought the AmazonBasics Bluetooth Keyboard for iPad and I LOVE it. My iPad is now basically a laptop.
