Where do you go on the web to find/get updates on music? -

I am trying to see if there is any up-and-coming gold standards for artists on the web. Facebook has been the primary avenue for funneling exposure to a local artist and "getting the word out" for quite a while now, but as many of you know, Faceook has been becoming increasingly inefficient for page-owners to actually connect with fans and gain any traction without paying out the ass for advertising.
Where do you typically go to check out new bands or find information/updates on bands you are into and when/where they are playing? Is Facebook still the status quo?

Metal/Hardcore. I have my music on Spotify and Last.fm (though admittedly I have barely touched Last.fm since I made the account like 4 years ago.) Bandsintown I've seen before but didnt know if it was a widely used thing (or even used outside of the Facebook app). Just trying to look into an alternative primary avenue for promotion besides pushing everything out through Facebook.
