Yoga Manners for Sweaty Men.... lol - Capitán Peligroso - 10-11-2013

This missive is just full of fun. A couple of excerpts:

Quote:Quote:

My teachers emphasize ad nauseum that it is positive to share energy with others in class. I opine that the sharing must stop at sweat. I posit that if yogis share studio space, that each one has a duty to prevent the floor from resembling the Venetian Canals ("Sweaty Situation"), and consequently forcing fellow yogis to become unwitting riparian mat dwellers ("Victims").

Quote:Quote:

The modern laissez-faire response to the Victims' plight is that these men wouldn't likely mind if the Victims' sweat touched their mats, after all it is yoga and we should let things go. I suggest that if I involuntarily shared my phlegm, another bodily emission, with these men via an errant swipe or a strong sneeze, that I would not be met with a charitable reaction.

I've been doing Yoga for most of my adult life, and I've never seen a self-proclaimed "yogini" write something so neurotic. I thought for sure she was from Toronto, but as it turns out, she's from Montreal. Full diatribe here for anyone who would enjoy a good laugh. Some of the comments so far are downright fetching...

I like how almost every commenter says she's a self-obsessed idiot, but it takes a man to apply logic and call her a liar too:
Quote:Quote:

Fluid dynamics call into question some of the validity of some of these complaints.

The author would have us believe that rivulets of sweat flow from these men's mats, spreading far and wide.

Unless the space is tiny, that's is a hell of a lot of sweat coming from one individual....I mean seriously...medical emergency, dehydration amounts of sweat.

I go to a yoga studio so this is hits close to home.

Basically the older female yoga instructors do their best to make me uncomfortable. It seems like asking someone if their OK at a yoga studio is the passive aggressive way "yoginis" make others feel not welcome.

How do I deal with this? I only attend the classes of the younger female instructors who don't break my balls every class.

Basically these older instructors are denying themselves paying students by behaving this way. I'm not really being negatively affected since I take my business elsewhere.

It's kinda cool how the free market works.

Men invented yoga. I don't think women even could invent it.
