So I've been a bit of a bind lately. I love where I live but the job market here sucks. I am stuck with a 12 month lease that I can't get out of. That and student loans...[Image: catlady.gif]

I am seriously considering taking some bartending courses and becoming certified. I figure that i'll be able to net a little income and meet more chicks in the process. Anyone on here bartend for short term work to get out of a slump? Any tips you can share would be much appreciated. I don't need much to get by on, 1,200 a month and I can live comfortably and slay strange on the side.

If the job market sucks and you live in a small town then it would be incredibly hard to got a job bartending with no experience. Usually you have to work your way up from washing dishes. Id do some research before spending any money on this.

Bartending courses are a complete waste of time and money

out of the 20 or so people I know who have bartended, not a single one took a class. They busted ass doing shitty jobs at the same place until they moved up to the bartending position, or they had connections.

Thanks that's the information I needed. Town is actually kind of big. Lots of universities here, unemployment rate is really high, competition for available jobs is insane. I will look into other opportunities in the meantime.

Every position in a somewhat busy restaurant makes over 1,200/month working full-time.

i do nightclub bartending occasionally.

started as a glassie, picking up dirty glasses and cleaning the benches. bluffed my way into a shift when i knew hardly anything and did just well enough to survive until next time. after gaining a bit of experience it became easy.

good tips, good fun.
