Anyway to do this without making it a negative for yourself? Such as having her split the bill on the drink tab or dinner tab, but not having her think you're "cheap"

Go on a coffee date, I don't think she will complain about paying for her own coffee. If she does, she clearly is a gold digger. I do this because I'm a poor uni/college student who lives in a feminized country;Australia.

If she doesn't ask, and you're not in America, you can pay for one drink, depending on the situation. It's also good to add, with a smirk, "next 99 rounds are on you, I like xxx", where xxx is an expensive drink.

The not buying drinks is good advice when you're in a bar and you've just met her there.
When you've invited her out, pay for a drink or two. Then, say, go to an ice cream shop and have her pay.
