Skywalker goes Hollywood! - Spike - 02-18-2013

Hey guys,

I just finished the first draft of the screenplay : Around the world in 80 girls.
It's 117 pages long so that's means nearly 2 hours (one page = one minute). I will try to cut it back to 110 pages which is preferred by the industry.

I still have to edit/rewrite the hell out of it but at least the first draft is finished.
I can now concentrate on improving the script. I'm planning to do this for the next three months including having it proofread by professionals.

My plan is to move to Hollywood/Los Angeles in June or July and try and sell the script to a production company. I will stay about 3 months (depends on the funds I have by then)

I see no negatives to this. In the best case I earn quite some dough and add some fame to my game. In the worst case and I have a cool and interesting story to tell for the rest of my life about that time I wrote a script and moved to Hollywood and maybe write another (shorter) book.

Well, the worst case would actually be being shot in some gang related drive by but let's be positive.

I welcome all the info and advice regarding the script and living in LA (on the cheap of course)

Cheers!

PS, The whole thing is already copyrighted and so is my book. Don't get any ideas haha

"around the world in 80 LAYS" !!!

Congrats Neil. Whatever happens, I think it will be a great experience. It's not going to be easy, but it's worth trying.

You better read this thread: http://www.rooshvforum.network/thread-20733.html [Image: biggrin.gif]

Skywalker goes Hollywood! - j r - 02-18-2013

Did you go with a straight travel memoir or did you add some kind of dramatic plot twist?

Skywalker goes Hollywood! - bacon - 02-18-2013

good luck. i remember hearing out how it took like 5 years for the script to GOODWILL HUNTING to finally be made into a movie and the process matt damon had to go through for it. and that was an academy awarding winning screenplay.

that said alot of times studios just by screenplays for cheap (20k) and never make the movie. of course once they do that they own the rights so you are completely out of the process.

Skywalker goes Hollywood! - Veloce - 02-18-2013

Neil, I know you sent me a PM about this some time ago and I completely flaked. Sorry (also welcome to your first L.A. experience of being flaked on! It'll happen a lot [Image: biggrin.gif])

Move to the valley first. It's cheapest. You can find some really cheap shit in places like Pomona but that's just too far away from the action. Look into North Hollywood.

Don't worry about drivebys or being shot.

When you get here, send me a PM. I'll send your script to a good friend of mine who's a producer (not a big producer, has done small indy stuff, but it's something). I won't flake this time.

Skywalker goes Hollywood! - speakeasy - 02-18-2013

Cool! Good luck with the script.

Hit me up when you arrive, should definitely grab a beer sometime.

They also pull dirty shit like reading the screenplay, not buying it, but basically stealing the idea and making their own movie. It's a grimy business.

Shoot me a PM Neil, I have multiple friends in the industry and one is an agent with CAA the most powerful agency. They rep everyone from Tom Cruise to Robert De Niro.

Moving to LA to sell a screenplay is no fkn joke but it helps to have people here to help you navigate.

Skywalker goes Hollywood! - Technics - 02-18-2013

Go get it Neil!

The best would be to combine it with a porn movie.Just kidding.

I tried to use as much as possible from my own experience but added some extra elements to the story of course. Every story needs drama.

Hey Skywalker

Some constructive (perhaps) criticism.

What is your unique selling point?, "Around The World in 80 Girls" doesn't really say much, if you had only 80 days in which to bang these 80 girls that might be impressive. Also, are you paying for sex at all?

Is there anyone in Hollywood who will want to make a movie about a backapacker who travels the world and has some sex along the way - that's nothing unusual.

Also I really don't think 117 pages is going to make two hours, I think you need to recalculate.

Anyway, wish you well, he who dares, and all that.

Skywalker goes Hollywood! - guerrilla - 02-18-2013

To make it sellable I hope you found true love at the end of the 80 girls. To Hollywood you need that to negate the womanizing.

Not sure if that's a myth or not. I never read anything about it so far but I could be wrong of course. Most scripts are copyrighted anyway. It's only 35 US.

Ok, sounds great! Will be in touch for sure. Yes, selling a screenplay is no joke. It's like winning the lottery. There are not that much big budget movies made each year and more than 50K scripts offered. I have no illusions about that. Ah, well what does it costs me? Some 10 months in total and some money. Money can be made again but an interesting story to tell is priceless. The added life experience is a huge bonus. I can sit in a boring office for the rest of my life if I want.

I don't know if Hollywood is waiting for a movie like this. I think my story is unusual enough to try so I'll try and see.

117 pages should be between 115 and 120 minutes, depending on how much dialogue or action the script has. Dialogue tends to take up a lot of pages.

"If you don't shoot you will always miss" as we say in Holland

Yeah, something like this. Otherwise it would be something in the straight to video category.

Skywalker goes Hollywood! - T and A Man - 02-18-2013

If you fail, go straight to youtube, sell advertising there.

Skywalker goes Hollywood! - Vacancier Permanent - 02-18-2013

All the best Neil. I hope you make it. I like your attitude and the way you're going about it.

Best of luck amigo!

Skywalker goes Hollywood! - Veloce - 02-18-2013

Hollywood is not going to be your market, indy production companies are. Even with access to CAA, they're simply not going to pick up a script that doesn't fall into their model. Think of big Hollywood as a very square, rigid box. There's an algorithm that goes into sustaining that box, and releasing movies about Banging 80 girls around the globe is not part of that algorithm.

That said, there are many, many production companies here that have the freedom to make whatever the fuck kind of movies they want. Those will be the people you want to reach out to.

I'll text my buddy tonight and see what he thinks...

Skywalker goes Hollywood! - thegmanifesto - 02-18-2013

Who is going to play Neil Skywalker?

Gary Busey?

Good luck Neil.

Don't forget about us little people when you are on the red carpet.

Maybe throw up a Rooshvforum gang sign so we know.

Skywalker goes Hollywood! - Menace - 02-18-2013

In order to sell, Neil will have to have a feminist awakening at the end where he realizes it's all meaningless and he marries a frumpy 5 and moves to Utrecht to raise poodles.

What I've read about the business so far is that Hollywood is up for anything as long as it answers the following questions: Is there a large audience for it and most importantly; will it make us lots of money?
The Hangover movies grossed nearly a billion dollars and look what F-ed up stuff there is happening in them.
Let me know what your buddy thinks of it. Thanks

Is Gary wearing the right suit in this picture? I'm not that old btw. I haven't even thought about who could play me. There are of course not that many actors who are as hansom as me. Maybe Danny de Vito.

I wouldn't call the ending a feminist awakening but it's an awakening indeed.
