“Twilight” fans everywhere will be devastated. Kristen Stewart cheated on co-star/boyfriend Robert Pattinson with her “Snow White and the Huntsman” director Rupert Sanders, who is married with two children, reports both Us Weekly and People. According to a photographer who snapped the actress and her 41-year-old director during a “marathon makeout session” on July 17 (Us Weekly has the pics in its new issue, on newsstands Friday), the two “couldn’t get enough” of each other.

Almost immediately after the indiscretion, Stewart, 22, had a change of heart and now feels terrible. “Kristen is absolutely devastated," a source tells People, which was the first to break the story. "It was a mistake and a complete lapse in judgment." And won’t happen again, adds the source. “She wasn't having an affair with Rupert. It was just a fleeting moment that shouldn't have happened. She never meant to hurt anyone. She's a good person who just made a bad choice."

Stewart and Pattinson, 26, have been dating since they first met while playing lovers in the first film in the “Twilight” series in 2008. At the time, the actress was in a long-term relationship with fellow actor Michael Angarano, who was reportedly crushed when she left him for Pattinson. Although both heartthrobs try to play coy about their relationship, she did admit in the June issue of Elle that Pattinson was her "f--king boyfriend."

It's unclear if Pattinson is aware of what allegedly happened between Stewart and Sanders. The couple appeared happy together at the Teen Choice Awards this past Sunday, and even wore coordinating blue-and-black outfits when they stepped onstage to accept the "Ultimate Choice" honor. (They did not walk the red carpet either together or separately.) A few days before the July 17 incident, Stewart and Pattinson giggled as they dished on Bella and Edward's sex scene in the upcoming "Breaking Dawn – Part 2" at Comic-Con.

The final installment in the “Twilight” series will hit theaters November 16 … but will Robsten still be together?

Reps for both Stewart and Sanders, who is married to model-actress Liberty Ross, had no comment.

I think that most celebrity couples are publicity stunts. It gets them in the spotlight for a little while and in the entertainment business, being in the spotlight is everything. Once the lights go out, it's not long before the relationship ends.

The publicity doesn't hurt, but I don't think the majority of these relationships are stunts. These pairings happen more because they're together all the time due to work, and work bleeds into spending social time with each other. The fact that they've worked together on a series of films has probably helped them stay together this long. Both are good looking people, and actors can be insecure and lonely. These are more pairings of convenience than anything else. Pattinson and Stewart actually live together, so I don't think you do all that for publicity sake. These relationships end more because they move on to different jobs, and who knows where that job will be filming. You could be on opposite ends of the earth on location. Relationships with normal people usually end with one or both fucking someone else when distance gets tossed into the mix. Which is what happened with Stewart. She was working on a movie that Pattinson WASN'T also working on, and some new dick caught her eye. An older, married guy that happened to be the boss showed her some attention, and being the good person that she is, she slipped and landed accidentally on his dick. You KNOW he was wearing that young ass out when they were on location, but now they were back home in LA with prying eyes all around, so it's hard to pull it off. Instead of doing the smart thing and simply ending it, they couldn't resist and got busted.

The fact that he's playing house with her says a lot about him. Major mistake. If you're going to wife her up and put your seed in, then by all means, settle in with her. But he didn't do that, and frankly, he's a major chump if he wifes her up now. Obviously it's possible Pattinson was fucking around, but it's really hard for guys that are as famous as him to do it and not get caught, or at least have whispers. It's not as if you can roll to any hotel/motel and meet a chick. Your crib is almost always staked out by paparazzi, so they see who comes and goes. If you're out eating, a member of the staff is calling the paparazzi with your location. Unless you're fucking with someone that has as much to lose as you, they're going to talk at some point. You have to be James Bond to get away with anything. You have to fuck in crazy places where no one would suspect, like in your agent's office in the middle of the day or something.

I think the author was just being honest about how things are in Hollywood. As she said, they're in their own bubble, and it's not as if MARRIED stars don't cheat on each other. Their behavior should in no way be held as a model for the rest of us (though we know non-celebrity men and women cheat on each other rampantly). A know a lot of dudes that have the same attitude expressed here - if you're not married to her, it's not a big deal. In the case of Pattinson/Stewart, they weren't married, but were more than "just dating." They were co-habitating, so the expectation is that they are exclusive. As for public apologies, I agree that it SHOULDN'T be anyone's business, but when your job is to be a public person, and you get busted doing something stupid, you have to play the PR game to mitigate damage. That's why they have publicists. The heat won't last forever, and her career won't be damaged. As they say, any publicity is good publicity. If her and Pattinson break up, there will be a line of dudes ready to step in and get some. Look at how the Brad/Angelina/Aniston thing played out. Angie took some hate for "stealing" Brad from Aniston, but we know from her reputation that she doesn't really give a fuck what's said or written about her. Brad took a little heat for cheating on his wife. Aniston got all the public sympathy, but in the end, that bitch is kind of whack anyway, so everyone understood why Brad would leave her. Aniston did interviews about it, but Brad and Angelina simply moved on, and never addressed it. None of their careers were harmed by any of it. This kind of nonsense keeps the wheels greased.

Yeah, it's naive to think that just because gays are more accepted now that everyone in Hollywood who is gay is out of the closet. I never said everyone is out. Only that the climate has changed. It's also obvious that lots of gays are drawn to the arts, but there are also a bunch of guys that went to that first drama class because they knew there were a lot of hot chicks in there. My point is let's not make broad assumptions, like tons of macho action stars are really fronting on their sexuality. And my mind wouldn't be blown, because I don't know these people. They're faces on a screen that entertainment. I don't assume to know them personally. Frankly, their jobs are to pretend to be people they aren't. There are gay people all around you, in every walk of life, including sports, but it's ridiculous to sit around wondering or assuming who is or isn't.
