So I have been living with this guy for about two weeks now. He recently informed me that he would be moving out on Friday (tomorrow). I have been asking him to pay me his half of the electric bill and he has yet to do that and I suspect that he is trying to leave without paying me.
Should I take a couple of his books as leverage??
If he calls the cops could I be arrested?

Take something, but don't admit it. Just insinuate that it might turn up if you part on good terms.
This is why you should always ask live-ins for a down payment.

Your right! I think I am just going to take his books and not let him know. But these are textbooks its going to be hard for him not to figure it out. I just hope he doesn’t try to fight me or some shit.

I wouldn't fuck with his stuff. Two weeks is not enough time to know if this dudes a wackjob or not. Dont ask him to pay, tell him to pay. Two weeks worth of utilities isn't worth him bitching a pitch and breaking something or someone.

How much money are we talking?
It can't be much.
It might be an easy way to get this guy out of your life forever.
Charge it to The Game. And keep the receipt.

Sorry he’s actually been here a month, but a good number of that time I have been living with my girlfriend, so I have technically only lived with him for two weeks. The guy racked up a huge electric bill over 100 dollars. I already told the guy he needed to pay me yesterday. He never came home. I sent him a text this morning no reply. At this point I don’t know what to do.

G,
I would charge it to the game but 174 dollars in electric/gas usage is just way too much for me to foot the bill.

I understand that everyone's financial situation is different.
But I think you need to get a grip.
You want to steal the guys books? Over $100?
Here you posted how you wanted to lie on a government form to get a loan:
http://www.rooshvforum.network/thread-7106.html
You should probably take a good hard look in the mirror and make sure this is how you want to live your life.
If you are really that concerned about the c-note, kick the guys *ass and get your money.
Or do what I said earlier. You get the guy out of your life easy.
I realize this is the lifestyle section of the forum, but I can't believe you are even posting this stuff.

Just go to home depot and get a cheap door lock so that he wont be able to enter the house with his set of keys. You need to do it anyways.

I guy I knew was in a similar situation a few years ago and He sold some of his deadbeat roommates stuff to make up the money (ps2, the games. And mini fridge) the day the roommate came up to pick his stuff up and it was gone he called the police but my friend had an alibi since he was at work all day. He simply had a friend go to his apartment and pick the stuff up and take it to the buyer while he was at work.
Since he had a Alibi and wisely denied to the police that He even knew the roommate owned those items (or could afford them since he was being kicked out for not paying bills) to begin with and stuck to his story everything ended up ok. Now with all the cameras and Facebook picture who knows what evidence could of popped up and ruined his story but he figured right the roommate had none.
The cops pressed him but he stuck to his story insinuated the deadbeat roommate was lying since he was mad at being kicked out and in the end got about half of what he was owed from the sale of the stuff and the satisfaction of getting a little revenge. It was a lot of trouble and risk though for about 300 dollars though so for the amount your talking about you might want to think of another course of action.

If it matters this much to you:
1. Let him leave without bringing up the money anymore.
2. Innocently keep track of where he's moving to (ask, if possible).
3. Write a "demand letter" to him asking for him for his half of the bill, explaining all the details, and with a copy of the bill.
4. Wait for him to not pay.
5. Serve him with small-claims court papers.
6. Present a good case.
7. Either get your money or get a judgment on his record.
All of this being said, I agree with the Bronx Tale clip above more than anything. Next time get a deposit. Better yet, live by yourself.

If you decide to take his books as leverage, you need to 1) keep them offsite where they cannot be easily discovered and 2) communicate with him via face-to-face only. Don't produce any record (email, text) about you holding his books. If he involves the police, at least you'll be able to deny everything he says.
But I don't think it's worth the headache for half of an electric bill.

@ el mechanico Awesome revenge idea! Man your just insane lmao
Dont warn the guy, last thing you want is a war with someone who may have less to lose than you do. Just give him the option to pay it, if he doesnt then follow El Mechanicos advice but NEVER admit what you did to anyone. Major Kudos if he has a nice car lmao

Two questions, two options.
Can the guy beat you in a fight ? ( in other words, are you afraid of him?) and does it look like he will put up a fight ?
If he can beat you and probably will start a fight - Forget the money.
If not, take his books and say to say him he can get them back after paying the bill.
Plain and simple.

The guy moved, I got the locks changed. He is still owing me about $28 dollars on the electric bill. So I took two of his books that I plan to sell. They are worth way more than 28 bucks. But oh well.
Thanks guys for the advice!!!

I already thought you were pushing it when I thought the outstanding amount was $174 (as you claimed above), but you made all this fuss over a
measly $28? I'm glad you got to exact your revenge by keeping some of this poor guy's books but, dude, I spend that much on lunch sometimes--and I'm not even close to being a high-roller. Next time let it go, shit. You don't know what bullshit going on in this cat's life. He might be hitting rock-bottom and you're trying to wring the last dollar out of him.
EDIT: I don't think this thread merited this sensationalist title:
"Crazy Roommate Situation Advice needed ASAP!"
EDIT 2: This type of petty and alarmist shit, your thread on
cheating on the FAFSA form (which G pointed out above), and your borderline race trolling
here and
here is really making you look bad around here.

Didn't read the rest of the thread but I want to first say, "WOW... how fucking underwhelming of a roommate issue." Two, what kind of liability are you looking at? Did the guy sign a lease or not? If not, you're fucked. That's all there is to it.

Yeah, the "Crazy Roommate Situation Advice needed ASAP!" is pretty out of line on this one.
I was expecting to read a thread about how his roommate was doing Satanic Human Sacrifice or something.
