Man of Steel - I just saw the movie, and whilst I'm elated about quitting my job, I am also in a good mood after seeing the movie. If you don't want mild, to quite large, spoilers, stop reading.

Good points:

1) Henry Cavill is a great superman. Really good. The critics saying he's "too moody" are chatting rubbish, just trying to pick faults for the sake of it.

2) The effects are incredible.

3) The sequels will improve on this film.

Bad Points:

1) It's about half an hour too long, and has TOO MUCH action, if anything.

2) The whole 'becoming Superman' part felt rushed.

3) The whole sequence where he fought the tentacle-like, terraforming machine's defense system was really rather pointless IMO.

There's more for both sides, but I'm too tired to go into them!

Wouldn't say these are big spoilers.

I've never been a big fan of Superman. But I've heard plenty of good reviews and comments about this movie. Would you say its worth watching it for a non Superman fan?

I watched The Shooter with Mark Wahlberg the other day and it was pretty good. I really like the fugitive type movies and Kate Mara is hot in this one.

I'd recommend watching.

The Shooter was good. Sniper was good too.

Is Man of Steel tied into the old Superman movies or completely on its own? Do I need to know the history before watching it?

You'll probably enjoy it even more if you're not a fan, as you won't have such high expectations and 'requirements'.

Yeah, it's a 'reboot' - so no knowledge of the old movies etc necessary.

Don's Plums: Dicaprio plays the role of the natural alpha of the group, steals chick from her lesbian and bisexual lover and more
Nice representation of aloof game

The Movie Thread - Justice Beaver - 06-17-2013

For fans of the action/spy/thriller genre, I strongly recommend the Bourne Series.

Yeah, "Man of Steel" was a good remake.

Just saw "This is The End" last night. Pretty fucking funny. Light up a j before going.

The Movie Thread - Frontenac - 06-19-2013

For anyone in Toronto, these two are playing in the next couple months at Cineplex theaters:
June 24 and 26

July 29 and 31

I'd just like it point out that Russell crow played a truly alpha character, a good combination of an alpha who is intelligent and stoic.

Never looks intimidates even for a second.

Also kinda stole the show as a supporting character. Every word from his mouth gave a vibe of " I will win ".

***Spoiler***

Also that part with Lois felt really pointless, I mean why did they take her on the ship? Why did she somehow gain access to that machine that let her her gain access to put that " Krypton USB" with Jor-el on it.

I felt like they made her the most luckiest and character in the movie when really she is absolutely useless. Perry White actually did something on his own and not get lucky and seemed like another true alpha on the movie, even not going soft on his female employee( Lois) like most blue pill bosses do for defying orders, giving her a big 3 week suspension.

The Movie Thread - rudebwoy - 06-19-2013

Superman was alright, hated the Lois lane character.

I think I preferred Fast and Furious 6.

The Movie Thread - LoveBug - 06-20-2013

medium popcorn, medium coke and World War Z tomorrow, lets see how it goes

The Movie Thread - Screwston - 06-21-2013

Cool Love Bug. That's this movie for anyone who doesn't know. It looks alright, maybe a good popcorn flick.

The Movie Thread - WesternCancer - 06-21-2013

I just watched The Place Beyond The Pines

fuck me that was good. Great movie about the importance of fatherhood.

The Movie Thread - Justice Beaver - 07-01-2013

I watched Looper today with Bruce Willis & Joseph Gordon-Levitt, fantastic film if you are into sci-fi and time travel.

The Movie Thread - Sp5 - 07-01-2013

Man of Steel: I thought that Diane Lane (age 48), who played Mrs. Kent, was still hotter than Amy Adams (age 38) who played Lois Lane.

Michael Shannon was cool as General Zod. Nice to see him getting more big roles.

Lots of religious imagery and unsubtle parallels drawn between Superman and Jesus.

The Movie Thread - Spike - 07-02-2013

I just saw Bellflower. Very dark and grimy. liked it a lot for an ultra low budget movie.

The Movie Thread - LeBeau - 07-02-2013

I'm gonna see Man of Steel soon, so far the ranking in terms of movies I've seen in theatres this summer:

1) newest Star Trek (easily one of the best action/adventure movies I've seen in the past couple years)
2) World War Z
3) This is the End

4) Iron man 3 (even more disappointing having grown up with comics and being a fan)

The Movie Thread - A War You Cannot Win - 07-02-2013

Every beta should watch the original Hellraiser. Then he will realize his cheating wife won't think twice about murdering him at the behest of her newly reincarnated bad boy lover on the lam from DEMONS who needs fresh flesh to become whole again.

The Movie Thread - Veloce - 08-13-2013

Elysium was a huge disappointment. Chock full of bullshit blue-pill Hollywood cliches. So much potential there. If anyone behind the movie had any real talent with the sci-fi genre they easily could have pulled off an epic trilogy but they pretty much wasted the entire fucking concept.

Whoever their creative director is did a great job in their vision of Earth 150 years from now but that's about it.

Recent movies I've seen:

1) This is the End
- fucking hilarious, went high as balls

2) World War Z
- Pretty decent, good amount of action

3) The Conjuring
- Good plot for a horror movie, thoroughly entertaining

4) Wolverine
- Didn't like it at all, plot was weak and the villain sucked/wasn't badass at all

5) The Way Way Back
- Really good coming of age movie, Steve Carell portrays an asshole stepdad very well

6) Fruitvale Station
- Good movie, really good acting, can't help but feel sad, especially toward the end

The Movie Thread - Mack Four - 08-15-2013

2 Guns was good. Denzel and Marky Mark had great chemistry.

Wolverine I liked because it was (mostly) true to the comic.

Elsyium was political garbage slathered in CGI effects. I like Matt Damon, but dude you don't have to beat us over the head with your world view EVERY damn movie.

And speaking of Marky Mark. Pain and Gain is the shit. Period. Got savaged by the critics because they HATE Michael Bay. But it is destined to be a cult favorite in 20 years.

I saw 1, 5, 6 myself, and I say I'd prefer number 5 of that bunch the most.

Tomorrow is movie day (for me about once every two weeks) and it is between the new Woody Allen flick or the Denzel/Wahlberg one, and since the Woody Allen one got huge ratings I'll check that

The Movie Thread - Spike - 08-16-2013

I saw Magic Mike today.

Decent movie about male strippers. Most guys were pretty alpha but of course a girl had to mess things up.

The ending left way too many questions open.
