Stock Market 2015 - lowside - 02-13-2015

I'm wondering how you guys have your newsfeed set up?

I use feedreader and have reuters rss on it and some other sites. But I find myself missing the boat sometimes.

Stock Market 2015 - DVY - 02-17-2015

Just bought GE and DEO (as mentioned above). I still think Nestle will take a short-term hit allowing me to accumulate at a cheaper price (5% discount maybeeeee).

Cloud Peak Energy earnings come out today. Lets see how I handicapped it.

RE: Cloud Peak Energy, I've been long Peabody since it was in the high 20s and I've speculated with CLD and ACI for the past four years. I've gotten crushed. Coal has nothing going for it. Hope you get something out of your trade.

Stock Market 2015 - DVY - 02-19-2015

^^^Fair enough. I've bought in after the energy crash (When it went from 20s to mid 7s).

I did all this research into energy and oil companies. Seems like most people are watching it like hawks. I couldn't find anything super cheap.

CLD was the exception. Its lowest cost producer of low-sulfur coal IN THE WORLD. That has to count for something. Even at todays prices, its still mildly profitable.

Im hoping for a 5-10 bagger, but we'll see

Stock Market 2015 - DVY - 02-21-2015

Picked up MRC Global (ticker MRC) couple days back

Logic is along these lines

1) Don't buy the oil-miners, buy the stuff all oil miners HAVE to have i.e its a pipes, valves and flanges company.

If any of those items break, they need those items STAT and will pay 20% markup for quick delivery. Thats basically the whole business. 1 billion in sales per quarter. 60-70% of biz is MRO (maintenance & repair) ensuring somewhat consistent earnings.

2) Balance sheet is improving. Goldman Sachs took company private in an LBO then flipped it back to the public via IPO. Debt is steadily decreasing, which will raise provide an increasing owner earnings as times goes forward.

3) Its selling at roughly 10x P/E (10% yield). Its not inconceivable that the valuation multiple can expand to similar supply companies (19-25 P/E).

I have zero idea what the biz will cost in the near future, but it seems like earnings are semi-stable and can be purchased at a reasonable price. I believe fear has dropped all energy-related stocks into the toilet. Some are justifiable, some not so much. This company is selling for UNDER book value.

I had the chance to purchase AMC 2 weeks ago, I already got a noticeable gain ($20,000 investment). All signs were bullish and I was right.

MRGE and OPK aren't going as expected, but still, not bad.

I finally got my Robin Hood account today. I'm looking forward to seeing how trying it out once I move some funds.

Stock Market 2015 - DJ-Matt - 03-05-2015

Got my robinhood invite today. Seems like they only take bank account info from a tiny handful of nationals.

Added Exxon and Chevron to the watch list, they've been going down lately probably due to oil prices. Since gas is going back up now might be the time to strike?

Stock Market 2015 - Travesty - 03-05-2015

This isn't a single stock but I think worth posting.

I have had about 20% of my assets in VHT (Vanguard Health ETF) for the last 2 years, recently pushed to 33%.

Boomers are aging everyone will be spending all their retirement money on drugs, and new surgeries, rejuvenation medicine.

Look at the chart.

http://finance.yahoo.com/echarts?s=VHT+Interactive#

I honestly believe this is the index ETF with low expense that is growing and will consistently beat the market by a good margin for the next 10-15 years.

Stock Market 2015 - Nemencine - 03-06-2015

I received a couple of PMs about trading/investment since i have been gone for a couple of months. Starting at the end of this week, unfortunately, I will soon be gone again till the end of the year.(business responsibilities.) But before i go, i will post this response to "biginjapan" bearishness on the USD.

Also I re-entered my long on the EUR.USD.... all the profit I have made on the NZD.USD and AUD.USD has convinced me to go long again... see where this goes

Mr. biginjapan position of Long EURUSD is basically short the USD using the EUR.

My response to that is this: ???

Why? Why would you want to short the USD, especially with the EUR?

To succinctly make my point, i will just leave these two bloody charts of the EURUSD here, showing the total devastation of the EUR by the USD:

Again, my reaction to that is this: ???

Why? and even more importantly: How?

How did you manage to profit(as you claimed) from shorting the USD using the AUD and the NZD? The chart of AUDUSD and NZDUSD below says otherwise.

You claimed that you made profit shorting the USD using the NZD and the AUD. I will just leave these two charts of AUDUSD and NZDUSD, to show just how brutally and viciously the USD is crushing them all.

AUDUSD chart.

I don't know how you could have made money shorting USD using NZD or AUD(maybe you were scalping or swing trading?). Either way, at this time shorting the USD is ill-advised. Especially, shorting the USD using the EUR.

Nemencine

So Apple is being added to the Dow 30 and AT&t is dropping out.

I heard read in the past that certain funds will have add these new stocks since they are based on the Dow 30.

Is there much of a bump coming from Apple being added?

Made a few pennies today in the financial sector from the banks passing the stress test and also the good jobs report. I cashed out early, because I figured a too good jobs report would worry investors. Which it did, market dipped down to almost -300 before closing.

Stock Market 2015 - tarquin - 03-07-2015

Apple is set to become a Blue Chip stock and Replace AT&T on March 18th. I'm not familiar with how index funds operate with respect to a change like this. Would Blue Chip specific funds be making the shift to purchase Apple and sell AT&T already? I'm just thinking of a trading opportunity in buying Apple and/or shorting AT&T until the funds readjust their holdings. Of course, things have already started moving, just thought maybe somebody here would have additional insight.

AMC just sell-stopped. Will be on the lookout for my new titles Monday.

Anyone own Fairfax Financial Holdings?

Over the last 30 years it seemingly has had Buffett like results. Around 20% annual returns. I bought 15 shares of it at $654 last week and intend to add to my holding.

Prem Watsa has apparently been "Dubbed" the Canadian Warren Buffett.

If your the gambling type check out UWTI & DWTI. They are 3x multiplier ETFs of crude futures with UWTI representing the long on crude oil and DWTI representing shorting crude.

My thoughts on this; Living in the Williston basin I noticed we have now gone below the number of rigs necessary to maintain oil production at the current levels. (according the the North Dakota Petroleum Council it is around 140 rigs where as we only have 104 currently running) I have a hunch that the Permian and Eagle Ford basins have similar drop offs. Shale production is heavily dependent on rig count, as I've seen the decline rates on many many wells owned by my company. This to me indicates that the U.S. has become the new swing producer in crude oil production, replacing Saudi Arabia. I am long crude as of now, as the middle east turmoil could easily spill over into oil producing regions and further my profit.

Again this ETF is not for the weak of heart or those worried about daily losses, but an opportunity none the less. Please do your own research before investing. Cheers

Thanks for the post. On an ETF like this, you are only risking what you invest right? That is my understanding. So the worse you can do is lose your bet, nothing more. Right? Thanks.

Correct, your maximum risk is the amount you invest.

Be aware that these 2 products are Exchange Traded Notes (ETNs) not ETFs.

So if the credit rating of Velocity Shares (the company offering them) becomes suspect, the investment value will fall.

So Apple is launching a watch and the prices range a great deal. I mean you could drop 10k on a watch.

But this chart is interesting showing how the stock performed by product releases.

Stock Market 2015 - lavidaloca - 03-09-2015

I bought about 55 shares of Apple last week. Hopefully that trend holds true. I'm down a bit on it right now but I consider it a buy and hold forever. I read news sites where people were complaining about the 10k watch but I guarantee you even if it's crappier than a Timex people will still shell out that money as it's been advertised as "Limited edition" and many people are consumed by status items.

Anyone thought about buying Uranium? I can't believe how long it's been in the toilet now. I bought 535 shares of Cameco last week as well...the biggest Uranium producer in the world. (Since the start of 2011 and for the most part since 2008)

Stock Market 2015 - DJ-Matt - 03-10-2015

I predict the watch will be a turd, the time to buy apple stock might be 6 months after it comes out. Not every Apple product is a win, the graph above points out AppleTV.
