New York City - Heart Break Kid - 01-19-2018

I'd pass on Upper Westside, it's not a good scene.

Harlem is pretty good though.

New York City - jordypip23 - 01-19-2018

NYC and the surrounding areas are just too cold & gloomy right now for me to visit. Where I live right now near Detroit is cold & gloomy as well. Once it starts getting warm & sunny out I'll consider a return trip.

If someone handed me a duffel bag full of cash and told me to fly out on vacation I am only traveling to somewhere warm right now, period.

New York City - godzilla - 01-19-2018

How is the nightlife in Astoria and/or Bushwich East williansberg?

New York City - yankeetravels - 01-19-2018

Godzilla I think you've seen my Jersey datasheet but if you're willing to go a little farther out, Morristown may be your best bet. It's a bit cheaper out there because Brooklyn will run your wallet more than Hoboken, which you seem to be looking to avoid.

New York City - Easy_C - 01-19-2018

Speaking locally, there's a lot in Jersey that's convenient. Rents drop exponentially the further away you get from the big transit hub at Hoboken. If you live out in Weehakwen, North Bergen, at al there's a lot of places where you can find affordable apartments and midtown is just a short bus ride away from your place to port authority.

To add to the list of places, recommend trying Black Tap. It's a fantastic place to bring a chick because they'll love the ridiculous milkshakes for their own social media preenings.

New York City - godzilla - 01-21-2018

Yea rents aren't bad in Jersey. I'm trying to go without a car. To me, a shared room in the city would be better than living alone out in suburbs, although I could be convinced otherwise.

Hoboken is great actually but would like to avoid it for other reasons.

I actually just don't know anything about Brooklyn which is why I'm asking. You'd be surprised, there is practically no reason to cross two rivers to do anything. For example, while I can't remember exactly, I'm pretty sure I've never been to Long Island my whole life.

New York City - Jetset - 01-21-2018

I'll second yankeetravels on checking out Morristown. It's historic and actually just a legitimately nice place to be. I don't think there's going to be much walkable action, though.

Another nice town at a similar distance is Long Beach, NY. Seaside, low crime, things going on in the summer and quiet through the winter. 50 minute LIRR-ride into Manhattan, and there's a good community vibe there. One of the highrises on the beach would be really high on my list if I needed to be close to NYC but didn't need to go in every day. You can jog in the sand like Rocky in the morning or take up surfing, use your place to pull girls who want to spend a weekend at the beach.

In Brooklyn, Cobble Hill/Boerum Hill isn't going to be cheap, but there's a lot of great venues and it's walkable to Downtown Brooklyn/Brooklyn Heights. You won't run out of places to go at night.

Bushwick/Bed-Stuy/Crown Heights have a reputation for high crime. Parts of Brooklyn are gentrified and safe, others are... not. I haven't been to Astoria but I've been meaning to get up there, I know a lot of people who live there and love it.

I'm going to NYC for 3 weeks in Sept. after I head to LA as I'm looking to relocate from London to NYC for work.

I'm thinking about staying in Greenwich, Soho or Tribeca as from what I've been told they're good places for day game, nightlife, and access to various sights but from looking at the Apple Maps, they appear to not far from each other so does it matter as everything is so condensed but a 5 min walk or a 5 min cab (closer to 10 once hailing, paying etc. done) can be the difference between a lay or no lay, right?

I've also been told the British accent isn't that much of a pull compared to LA, is that true? I shouldn't say this but I rely on the accent a little too much [Image: sad.gif]

I'm sure it's heard more in NYC than LA. But ppl in LA were so superficial man. I don't live in either place but I went on guy trips to both.

NYC is way better/easier to pull than LA. Just of pure numbers and logistics, the amount of girls you'd have access to approach is way better than LA. I like the nyc mindset better. The city tends to attract the sex in the city types. Very down to earth. Realist. Opportunistic. I didn't pull in either city but had leads and potential to do so in both. I only spent a few days in both but I could tell from approaches and how I was being received that NYC was better. I rely on a gift of gab and slightly above average looks especially when it comes to a muscular physique. Looks helped me better in LA where there seemed to be less clothes being worn and ppl cared more about their physical appearance (fit-wise, toned definition). In NYC, it seemed that looking nice in clothes and being able to talk helped more. NYC chicks are around the way type girls. They seen and heard it all so you have to come correct and maybe the accent would be a plus.

But Cali girls seemed more care-free and shallow so my sarcastic/witty/arrogant type of personality wasn't as successful or maybe it was partly so with the addition of my physique. I still had there attention but it seemed less genuine in a "Cali-liberal, I want to appear like I care what others are saying" type of way. NYC ppl in general just seem way more direct and genuine with their responses and attitude.

So yea, I think the accent will work great in LA, especially if looks come with it. That alone may not work in NYC (these chics seen and heard it all) but that will definitely grab their attention and as long as you keep them interested in the convo, it cld work for you (especially if you wear some of those european cut suits). I've been to London before too and I'd pick that over NYC bc of my accent as well.

What happenednto club NY in Manhattan the one puffy went to

New York City - kuningasvoittamaton - 02-25-2018

I am visiting NYC in april for a week. Can anyone recommend a good hotel to stay? I would prefer AirBnb but it is illegal in NYC. I have been thinking about getting a hotel in Williamsburg but my friend is recommending spending more and getting one at Manhattan.

New York City - Black Caesar - 02-25-2018

AirBnB is not illegal at all and there are plenty.

Stay close to where you are going out and on a main subway line.

New York City - kuningasvoittamaton - 02-25-2018

Where would you stay? I want to visit nightclubs and bars everyday.

New York City - Brahman - 02-26-2018

Airbnb isn’t illegal...but there are restrictions

Williamsburg is fun, easy to get to Manhattan - but hotels aren’t that much cheaper since it’s considered a trendy location

there are bars and clubs open every day of the week here, it just depends on the kind of people you're looking for (artsy, bankers, blue collar, etc)

nope...it's just not as rare...plenty of british/european expats living in nyc...

from NYC, flying to london and LA takes the same time (6 hours)

New York City - Eldon - 02-26-2018

Get an Airbnb in the east village or lower east side. Those are neighborhoods where you’ll probably be going out anyway. If you get a hotel in midtown you’ll be taking the subway/Uber downtown anyway. Definitely explore Brooklyn as well. Culture, music and beautiful brownstone neighborhoods. Williamsburg is great also for nightlife. If you go wanna tre-hipster there’s a hotel in the border of Bushwick/Bedstuy. Area is still a little rough but it might be interesting for you. There’s also a cool Airbnb in a brownstone in this area that a visiting friend of mine stayed in. If you give some more details about what type of experience you’re looking for, I or another local could give you more specific recommendations.

New York City - Clint Barton - 03-01-2018

For those in town...

The NYC RVF meetup will be this Friday, March 2nd, in the Lower East Side, starting at 5:30p.

PM getdownonit or myself for the exact location of venue.

New York City - Mikestar - 04-22-2018

I am flying to NYC in early june and will stay there for three nights. I have never been to the usa before, I am looking for a cheap place to get an airbnb which isn't longer than 40mins to Manhattan, what neighbourhood should I look for an airbnb?

New York City - winterfell - 05-03-2018

Anyone knows anything about living on Roosevelt island in the summer? (Fresh out of school, don't have to bankroll to stay in prime spots in the city)

Don't know much about it. But after some research, it feels like my plan of working on my business while being not far from everything that is going on in the city, fits well with the island. My concern is people's perception about it, will girls feel weird about going hang out on the island?

I booked a cheap hostel in Chelsea, all I need is a place to sleep and central location so it should be fine.

New York City - Nalgas - 05-03-2018

Anyone have any recommendations for nightclubs with lots of Latinas?

New York City - 456 - 05-03-2018

Absolutely NOBODY wants to hang on Roosevelt Island.

- One bar, one restaurant, one duane reade (drugstore), one subway stop near the tram, so if you aren't right there, long walk / cab

But it's cool to bike to and visit once or twice:

- "Four Freedoms" monument basically on a stone freedom boner cleaving the East River into two beautiful (if mildly polluted) halves

- Cornell building some interesting campus there

The local talent:

- Boring med students or couples who acutely dislike Fun

New York City - 456 - 05-03-2018

Latinas --

If you're latino[-esque] there are plenty of answers.

If you're not, it's a little more delicate, but I'd generally say, without going explicitly to a latin area, you'll see a touch in typical night spots (LES, Meatpacking), but surprisingly many groups of hot latinas, when going to non-latino areas, seem to love glammy places in Midtown (East), maybe a touch of far upper east side (below Spanish Harlem).

If you are, though I'm not, I have many friends and have been in some interesting hotspots (Dyckman Seaman area hahaha, literally, Inwood, Wash Heights, various neighbs in the Bronx, etc.. (Obviously there's a whole convo to be had about the rest of the boros and even parts of Jersey, LI, etc.)

Sometimes the worlds semi-converge -- you see lots of big groups in western queens / LIC on the waterfront at certain venues (Blend on the water), but it's not a huge scene.

Creative solution here (if you are an animal lover) - list yourself as a dog/cat/apartment sitter on rover.com. Drop your price to $10-$15/night (whatever the minimum is), get your friends and relatives to write you reviews.

Just remember - you are doing it for the free apartments all over the city, not to make $ from pet sitting. Sitting the cat/dog is your cost for the Manhattan apartments.
