They said that they wanted to split book 3 into two seasons (3 and 4), but the plot has been advancing fast. I think they gave up on that plan and decided to do entire book 3 in one season, after all*. This is good. The ending will be very interesting when it is condensed like this. I can't wait for the last two episodes!

* (speculation) = their timeline probably shifts depending on how fast George R. R. Martin feels that he can write the remaining books (6 and 7) in the series. They didn't want to overrun the books, so they split book 3 into seasons 3 and 4, but then midway through the filming, GRRM felt that his book 6 would be finished faster than anticipated and told them to not do the split after all.

I can understand that, 10 episodes really isn't enough(I think) per season for a show like this.

It's still the plan that book three will stretch over 2 seasons. No way will they be able to cover Edmure's and Jeffreys weddings, the machinations of the red viper and the events in the Eyre in the two remaining episodes.

(spoilers from last night's episode)
Just curious, was I the only one really super pissed at Samwell for not picking up the dragonglass dagger after using it to kill the white walker in the last episode?

He has a whole bag of them.

In the book the dagger shatters anyway, though it's only one of the zombies and not a true wight that he kills in the written version (there are many of both).

Yes, season 3 is still only half of book 3. The Dorne subplot and other major events in the book haven't even been touched on yet, which is understandable as we already have 'bout 9 scenes going on at the same time currently. The 1st half of book 3 is mostly set-up, while the latter half has a load of action. So that's why we've watched mostly set up stretched out in 8 episodes of season 3. Jon Snow's subplot can basically be summarized as [Meet Mance Rayder -> Fuck Ygritte in a cave -> Climb the wall -> Some future fighting coming.] Shit's about to get real though in the last 2 episodes.

Also I'm pretty sure Sam actually kills a true white walker with the dagger. Obsidian daggers can only kill white walkers, but not harm reanimated corpses.

I looked it up in the book (got them all) and you're right. It was an Other (the book name for the white walkers) and the dagger remained.

Must have confused it with some other incident. Sam's storyline is definitely the one that has been chopped the most in the TV series.

What do you mean the dagger remained? Do you mean it remained with Sam or that Sam did not pick it up?

Green picked it up actually. In the book this event occurs earlier.

I'm amazed how people who have not read the books can follow the show and enjoy it. I love the speculation in this thread, it really shows that the show is doing a good job with the subtleties of the book.

I do have one worry however: (I'll put it in hidden text below)
There aren't enough hints dropped for the (I couldn't figure out how to spoiler this effectively so I removed it). To me this must be the case and will come as a weird twist to people watching the show.

Yeah its great at being its own thing. Some of my friends have read all the books and I rarely find myself asking them questions about what is going on/what will happen.

I'd read the books, but I don't really want to spend that much time doing so.

Most talented actor IMO is the guy who plays king Joffrey's role. He just makes the sadistic psychopath role so amazingly believable.

I think I know the spoiler you're talking about, so I'll add it in for you.

There aren't enough hints dropped for the *SPOILER LINK* Big Event *SPOILER LINK*. To me this must be the case and will come as a weird twist to people watching the show.

Even though I haven't read the books, I am aware of this spoiler. I read about it last year while doing some research to fully understand a couple of episodes. And you are right, not enough hints have been dropped. The reaction to this should be interesting.

Even links to the spoiler are still rather spoiler-ish, but that might just be me. We should have just stuck to metafors.

Everyone, please don't even mouseover that link.

Anyone watch Game of Thrones? - bojangles - 05-23-2013

Can't wait for the big event. I want this shit to go faster as in 2 episodes a week. The huge event for me is when the real king shows up.

Anyone watch Game of Thrones? - CarCrashKid - 05-23-2013

I read somewhere that they haven't even cast the Red Viper yet so that could play with the seasons.
Season 3 could end with the Big event and Season 4 could focus more on the South... for obvious reasons to those who have read the books.

Also, I have been inclined to tell people to read the books.
I read all the available books in a couple of months during my Summer holidays. The show is great but it could never compete with the books.

Anyone read the Dunk and Egg books? They shed some light on how things could play out for the Targaryen side.

Anyone watch Game of Thrones? - rudebwoy - 05-23-2013

Will you guys stop with this spoiler stuff!

Anyone watch Game of Thrones? - AlbertoDelMuerto - 05-23-2013

Anyone watch Game of Thrones? - eradicator - 05-30-2013

I caved and bought book 3, i couldn't wait The show is good, but i mean, I can't wait so long knowing the story is already written and in book form. It is long though, like 1100 pages.

Anyone watch Game of Thrones? - AlbertoDelMuerto - 05-30-2013

So the 7th book is the last one?

Anyone watch Game of Thrones? - AlbertoDelMuerto - 06-02-2013

^^ You little troll, even though I was aware of it all, I'm sure most people weren't, you just ruined the show for them.
