My last extended trip in Argentina I made the fatal mistake of not bringing enough clothes hoping to shop there. The quality in Argentina (Cordoba) was terrible, and American brands like Lacoste were more than twice as expensive as here. Even if I was in Buenos Aires it still would have been smarter to buy in the US.
Now, again I need to upgrade my wardrobe, and I'm leaving for Thailand in a month. Would it be better to buy my clothes here in the US or wait until I land in BKK?

Depends on what you want to buy.
You can also get a lot of stuff tailor made if you have to.
But, if you have to, buy it at home. The problem is having to lug all that shit around.
Find a balance.

Ed,
I'd suggest you to travel as light as possible. Everything you'd want/need can be bought in BKK for cheap. Once you get there, just go to MBK mall and you can buy anything you want for cheap. You could even wear only custom made shirts, pants/jeans and suits at any of the indian tailor shops in town. The only thing you'd want to bring are designer stuff as these are more expensive than in the US. Everything else, buy it here for way cheaper. Btw, Lacoste is a a French global brand and not american.
