RIP Gunnery Sergeant R Lee Ermey

The man with the greatest one liners of all time has passed away at the age of 74.

You want to know the only thing you can assume about a broken down old man? It's that he's a survivor.

Every scene he was in 'Full Metal Jacket' was glorious, also the graduation scene. He only needed some lines to let the audience know about the mystique behind of what a boot camp brings to young men, they stop being soft grown teenagers to become soldiers.

Is this the same gunny who was all over the history channel for military related stuff and did "mail call"?

This is a sad day.

I'd never heard of the term 'reach around' before. Shit that people do.

I'm a massive Kubrick fan. Mahoosive.

Lee Ermey was chosen because he was a genuine shitlord.

Fucking 'reach around' - still can't get over it...

But there's many more classics from this guy. You want to look up the shooting of that scene. He just flowed. Tour de force. Kubrick let him run with it. That's a big compliment.

You can see that they are genuinely scared of him.

And that harmonic voice.

This is why I never joined the Marine Corps.

And probably never will.

This guy was a legend.

He gave a speech somewhere I saw when I was in the Navy. There's an interview somewhere with him talking about tattoos. He's got lips on his asscheek.

Also, he got fucked by Hollywood over bad-mouthing Obama. He was a Trump supporter, and we better see a presidential tweet about his passing asap.

Aloha!

A rarity in modern pop culture, he was a outspoken patriot, conservative and freethinker... RIP.

The best part of Full Metal Jacket and any movie he was in. I didn't know he was sick. RIP.

He's probably in heaven whipping lazy angels into shape for the coming war of heaven and earth.

RIP.

Sad to hear this. Truly a man from another era.

If only you knew how bad things really are.

RIP to a real animal.

The original drill sergeant written for Full Metal Jacket was more of a standard tough guy, and Ermy was the consultant for the film but eventually they heard the stuff that came out of his mouth and knew they couldn't write that so they gave him the gig.

"Today, you are Marines. You're part of a brotherhood. From now on until the day you die, wherever you are, every Marine is your brother. Most of you will go to Vietnam. Some of you will not come back. But always remember this: Marines die. That's what we're here for. But the Marine Corps lives forever. And that means YOU live forever."
