I was hoping we could start a thread on some good LA nightlife. I haven't been to a good club in a while so I was hoping maybe some of you could chime in on places with the best pickup possibilities.

As for bars, I've been the a few here and there, but the one that really stood out was Bar Marmont. I definitely want to hit up some other spots where the sleaziness oozes.

go to a working class latin club! [Image: smile.gif] love the sleaziness factor at those places! I always get a lay out of it!

There is a an underground club in Culver City/Westchester called Area 33. A couple of my friends use to go all the time and they still might. I went once it was a cool place with some decent girls. I think you have to recieve a text message or e-mail from the place with a password or pay like a 10 or 20 dollar cover to get in. They stay open until 4 i think if you like to dance and hear electronic music it is cool. I can't remember whole lot about it because I was pretty twisted the last time I went. There are some cool bars in Venice Beach on Washington Blvd near the beach to hit up in the day. Also The Brig in Venice is cool. I'm only familiar with West L.A. because I have friends there. Don't know to much about Hollywood clubs. I think the attractiveness of girls in LA is higher than San Diego and San Francisco.

This is all three years or so old, not sure if LA went and changed on me or not. Also, I am not mister high-end bar guy.

Echo Park - The Shortstop, full of cool girls ready to go. That neighborhood in general is pretty cool, with fair warning for all of the hipstery nonsense.

Downtown - Bar 107 - People are drunk in this place. Fun crowd.

Los Feliz - Drawing Room - Good old fashioned dive bar, people actually talk to strangers here, a rarity in bars in LA

Hollywood - Power House - That smoking alley is gold

Highland Park - This neighborhood is full of cool places, and people are laid back. Mr. T's bowl in particular.

Silver Lake - Spaceland especially on a Monday or Tuesday. Live music, cheap beer, no cover, people looking for fun.

I'll try to think of more, but all that kush destroyed my memory...

I'm more familiar with the Southbay area of LA. Sharkeez in Hermosa always has girls, though its a little trashy.

How about places like Voyeur, Hyde, etc? Have any of you guys been to the nicer clubs? Any success?

I had a really good time right after college at Hermosa Beach, but after being away from the frat crowd for such a long time it's going to be more of a shock than anything going back there.

Since you asked about clubs, I'll throw in what I know since I recently lived with a promoter:

Colony - was good on Wednesday nights when I was there.

My Studio - IMO shitty ratio most of the times that I went, even on Fridays. Might wanna bypass this one.

Roxbury - Saturday nights I went were pretty dank. Not sure about the other nights of the week but on Sat its good.

I typically fucking hate clubs since you need a table to have status, which was nice when my friend hooked me up. I'll throw in a few good other bars to try if you're looking for more of a bar scene (my personal fav):

NoHO/Studio City: Laurel Tavern (Fri, Sat), The Federal Bar (they have a good upstairs with DJ and good ratio most Thurs and Fri), NoBar

Los Feliz: White Horse (@ Sunset and Western...fav bar in LA), La Poubelle and Birds on Franklin have a fair amount of hotties too

I haven't really messed with the club scene in LA. More trouble than it's worth, in my opinion. We learn Game so we can avoid spending money on club clothes and bottle service.

But I've been to a bunch of the other places you mentioned. I ended up at White Horse with a girl who lives down the street from there. It's a good spot to stop by during a night, wouldn't stick around there longer than a drink or two though. It sets a good vibe you can throw into the mix.

I have a pretty good track record at Birds. Love the UCB theater so I'm over there a good amount. The Federal has been my go-to date spot lately, with mixed results. The location is good for me... the vibe can be hit or miss.

Los Angeles Country Club is one of my favorite club, where I usually prefer to go.
It gives you separate Golf courses, have a very good parking facility and lots more specially the drinks. I really had a good time there with my friends.
I suggest you that if you are in LA then atleast once you should go.

I hit this night club up, wasn't really feeling it, but the door man definitely had the best personality for a night club bouncer. check out this girl's review!

"i was really upset beacause the door guy called me a cunt for no reason and was saying that im too old to club. His name is ali and he should get fired does anyone know where I could go to complain? because thats not cool at all I am very upset"

Overall, I thought TRU sucked, although I did see a fair bit of hooking up, so your "mileage may vary."

@Kerouac what part of LA do you live in? I have friends that live in Marina del Rey and Venice. There are some decent spots in Venice and there are some good bars to drink in the day and meet girls.

I'm on the West Side right now, but I might be moving in another direction around the city soon. Where are the good spots around Venice? I'd definitely like to check them out!

There are some bars on the beach at the end of Washington St. which are good for day drinking. The Whaler is pretty good to go during the day. I remember going to The Brig one night which is on Abbot Kinney St. and there were some cute girls. There was a live Jazz band that was good too there.

I think there are also some other bars on that Street. If they opened up Area 33 again which is in Culver City it is a good underground/after hours club.

I lived in Venice for a little while, and I thought the night scene was kind of wack there. Loved living near that boardwalk though.

I recommend the Other Room on Abbott Kinney, definitely good atmosphere for approaching.

Honestly, as far as the West Side goes, much better in Marina del Rey, where there are still a few low-key bars great for happy hours. Prince O' Whales in particular.

But I agree with the posters who prefer downtown.

There's a dance studio in North Hollywood that attracts all of the euro honeys! And I have a good feeling there are a lot of hot girls in the Valley, it's just hard to find a way to approach them (because they're hard to encounter) but I think one of the best investments one can make in places like the valley, or San Diego, is to move to one of the big apartment complexes that have big hot tubs and pool parties. They're usually not more expensive than anywhere else so they attract a fun young crowd.

Otherwise, in LA, as I'm finding out again after moving back, social circles are incredibly important. I need to get my ass out there and make my circle a whole lot bigger.

Just yesterday, I was sitting at a Starbucks with a friend and a chick and her hoe-friend were looking through their cell phones saying to each other "all these guys names are guys I hooked up with, but I just don't know who they are!" Slluuuuuttss! But that's the great thing about LA, if you're looking to hook up at least (and not looking to settle down) there are plenty of sluts to go around.

@Kerouac, do you care to share which dance studio in NoHo is that?

Btw, I also live in the Valley, and I can't wait to move out to WeHo/Los Feliz.

I went to the Edison last night. It truly is a great spot in so many ways. Probably my fav bar in L.A. What I notice though is that there are way too many Asian women. It seems like that with all the downtown bars. They are packed with Asian chics, seems like they are mostly Korean from their looks. I don't have anything against Asian girls per se, but they tend to be very cliquish and social-circle oriented.

There are some nice non-gay bars around WeHo that I'm getting to know, but I've usually gone with friends and haven't had any opportunities to pick any girls up. I hit up Hermosa one weekend when there was some big lifeguard competition and it was a complete sausage fest-- I'm talking 15-to-1 ratio guys-to-girls. This year in LA has been pretty much a bummer for me, girl-wise, but I attribute that to having spent most of my time dealing with online-dating girls.

Have any of you guys done any day-gaming here? Sunset Junction is coming up and, taking into consideration my past experiences, it's going to be a good time!

I don't know if the Sunset Junction is happening. The city is saying their permit has been denied.

I was in Los Feliz for the first time last night. Man, it feels great to return to civilization occasionally. I'm out in the South Bay, and it's just a non-stop stream of douchebaggery, moreso female than male. I couldn't run game, because I was on a date there, but the girls looked much easier to game. If it were at all practical, it'd be a cool place to live.

Maybe it's "grass is greener" syndrome, but I'm starting to think Hermosa is overrated. Sure, you'll see hot girls in bikinis, but social circles are strong, the girls are close-minded, and the competition is strong and numerous. I find it way easier to play the 'cool cosmopolitan cat' angle with more swagger than the competition, than to out-bro every USC grad within a 100 mile radius. Maybe Venice is in my future...

That will suck if they can't pull through with Sunset Junction! That's one of the events I always look forward to!

Hermosa Beach was really good three years ago when it was still a budding fruit dangling a mixture of naive South Bay natives and LMU coeds. Now, I think it's become a bit too popular, although it's still a nice place to go bar-hopping around LA.

I hear a lot of good things about the bars around Abbot Kinney in Venice, and the crowd, I'm guessing, will be a bit more appreciative of a cosmopolitan flair.

Another area I want to spend a little more time in is Santa Monica by Third Street Promenade. There are a few nice lounges there that could be worth checking out.

I've given the Hermosa Beach nighttime scene a try but I just can't get into it. It's not my scene, not my crowd. It's a good place if you like ditzy drunk white girls that scream "wooooooo!" all night. Sort of what I picture most spring break locales to be like. That's paradise for some, but I cringe. It's a place where you could get TONS of pussy if you fit into that scene. In fairness, there's a lot of normal young professional types that hang there too. But there are better places to be IMO.

Hermosa is cool to chill in the daytime though. I can even tolerate it at night every once in awhile.

Copa and Misfits are both good happy hour places. Copa has good mixed specials - check it our during happy hour. Copa is also good if you just want a well-mixed drink.

There's a British pub that can be good on its karaoke night. I forget the name...it's across from hooter's.
