Can anyone recommend gyms in Medellin - both Poblado and Laurelles areas. Need short term or day pass options as I'll probably only be staying 2 weeks in each place.

So I've relocated to Austria, Vienna from USA and have been living here now for almost 2 months. Vienna has a very active fitness culture and any day of the week even when you have frequent rain and heavy wind/cold from the river you can still see people outdoors exercising. I am not going to cover the whole city and will concentrate on those gyms that are close to the city center/metro's where majority of us would stay.

If you are into calisthenics and need "jungle gyms" there are quite a few of those close to city center. You can find many of them next to Schwedenplatz Metro, on the Danube canal:

Also there are some great jogging/bike paths and more street cardio equipment on the way to "UN City" by Handelskai & Recihsbrucke (walking distance from Donauinsel U Metro) intersection.

As for paid gyms Fit Inn chain is the most popular chain in Vienna and you can find their locations all over the city center. You can actually visit Vienna and work out with them "for free" as they have a 2 week trial, otherwise they cost 20Euros/month. This chain reminds me a bit of Gold's Gym in USA as everyone knows about it and everyone has joined it at one time or another. Unfortunately due to its name recognition this chain is also very crowded, I went here a few times late evenings and even then they had too many bodybuilder types hogging the free weights area.

Another gym that is more expensive but much better quality with plenty of free weights, Olympic type lifting stations, literally hundred's of various dumbbell's and barbells including some that were as high as 70KG's, sauna's, and indoor climbing facility is Fitnessclub Heimlich, across from Wien Mitte mall on Ungargasse 4 street. Membership here is 90Eu/month and IMHO this gym is the best bang for the buck.

The chain that I eventually settle on was John Harris just because of logistics, since it is a 2 minute walk from my job. This is a high-end chain with some locations even having indoor swimming pools, and all locations having sauna's/steam rooms and newest world class equipment with a heavy emphasis on cardio. Their cost starts at 105Euro's/month if doing a monthly membership and go's up from there depending on which location you join.

Finally, if money is no object you really want to join a gym that is more like a lounge then the best one is Holmes Place at around 190Euros/month. Once I saw the prices I did not bother joining even though the women here were gorgeous and it was the only gym I saw with a good ratio and felt like I could have done some gaming for a chance.

Does anyone have any recommendations for Budapest? I'm planning on spending a few months there and would love a good spot to keep in shape.

There is a cool street gym with some weights and pull up bars in Parque Lleras and it's free.

I used to almost exclusively lift weights and didn't think body weight exercises had any place in serious strength training. Then I started traveling a ton and got sick of having to find gyms everywhere. I read "Naked Warrior" by Pavel and it changed the way I looked at resistance training. One of the biggest things I found was there's usually a way to use your own body weight in a mechanically disadvantaged way to make an exercise as difficult as you need it to be for building strength. The only thing I haven't found a good enough replacement for are deadlifts.

You can find bare bones outdoor gyms with pull up bars, dip bars, etc in most cities. I use this website wherever I go: https://calisthenics-parks.com/
