- not because you did study abroad.
- not to meet some friends you already know

Just you, buying a ticket, finding accommodations, and hitting the ground solo.

DC is being very good to me paper wise so now it's time to cross some things of the bucket list.

I've never traveled solo. Always something organized, with a gf, with my boys...but never me just flying into Nairobi and trying to find out what's good.

1) Where did you go?
2) How long was your trip?
3) If it was more than a few weeks, how'd you cover that expense
4) How'd you research?
5) Where did you stay?
6) What was the one thing you wish you realized before you left?

and because I can't forget my audience

Tell me about Your first trip SOLO

NYC in 2005. My first trip overseas on my own. Organised it on Expedia.

Wished I'd gone for more than 10 nights, and had a bit more confidence to go to bars and stuff on my own.

No bangs on that trip BUT it paved the way for future solo trips to HK, China and Japan, which paved the way for a year spent living in Asia, where much more went on.

Yeap, in Madrid, in the first night. I think it was my personal best.

1) Budapest
2) 5 weeks
3) Savings
4) Read through Budapest threads on RVF. Cross-referenced with Google Maps to fine tune logistics before booking accommodation.
5) Airbnb apartment
6) Going out clubbing till 5am every night is not sustainable for more than a week. You will burn out pretty quickly and it will become counter-productive. Know your body; it knows when it's time to take things a bit easier for a few nights.

Tell me about Your first trip SOLO

1) all over Egypt, London, Brussels, all over holland, Rome, gimmelwalt, chengdu (best city in china, I should mention I lived in China for two years), Hong Kong
2) 7 months
3) mainly poker winnings
4) I bought a one way ticket to London with absolutely no plans, not even knowing where I'd sleep the first night
5) camped in a tent and cheap hotels
6) my advice would be to do what I did in number 4. As an example, after spending two weeks in Rome I woke up and decided to go somewhere new. I asked the hotel manager who was from India if I should go to India or Egypt for a one week trip. He said if you only have one week go to Egypt. I ended up going to Egypt that same night and staying for a month. Let me tel you, waking up in Rome not knowing where you will sleep that night and ending up in Cairo is a pretty sweet feeling.

Crazy fact about the trip? I didn't take one picture, not even when I stumbled across the pope in Rome giving mass.

The trip changed my life and I intend on doing it again

Also I didn't bang anyone

Tell me about Your first trip SOLO

1) Where did you go?

Bratislava, Slovakia. I was 21 working in Budapest, and I stumbled across a return train ticket for $17. I decided to make this my first solo trip

2) How long was your trip?

3 days

3) If it was more than a few weeks, how'd you cover that expense

Short term, but Slovakia is very pocket friendly

4) How'd you research?

I read a brief article on Travelfish, I didnt learn about the forum until the next month. I also did some pipelining on Badoo which turn out to be fruitful.

5) Where did you stay?

Hotel about a 15 minute walk from the main square.

6) What was the one thing you wish you realized before you left?

Wish I would've known about the forum, Don't waste time with pub crawls when that time could be spent gaming local girls, I should've dressed better, wish my game was more defined (I believe I could've scored multiple girls a night), and wish I knew about AirBNB.

7) DID YOU BANG? lol

Yes twice. One girl from the Club Bratislava and a teacher from the Havana club.

This trip really opened my eyes to traveling. I've never received as much attention anywhere else as much as I have in Bratislava. I was getting eye fucked by girls everywhere I went. Alot of people write it off, but it is a great city for an African American guy with a bit of game. This is one of my fav. cities in EE and I have returned multiple times. Badoo is gold out there.

1) Manila, Boracay, Cebu City, Bangkok, Jakarta (see data sheet in my sig)

2) 3 weeks

3) Substantial tax refund

4) Exclusively from the many excellent threads right here on this forum

5) See data sheet

6) I was pretty well prepared, but I wished that I was more attuned to what the semi-pro tells were.

7) I banged on the regular, but I can't say that any of those rated in the best sex of my life. I actually never felt 100%, which I put down to being in a hot and humid environment, zapping my mojo a fair bit. Still, no regrets whatsoever.

Tell me about Your first trip SOLO

My first solo trip was the best time of my life, been doing it ever since.

1. Started in Moscow, taking the Trans Siberian to Vladivostok. After that Japan, South Korea, China, Philipines, China, Vietnam, Cambodia, Thailand, Laos, Thailand, Malaysia, Singapore, Indonesia.
2. Ten months.
3. Savings from working 2 jobs for 1,5 years.
4. Only booked my time in Russia, after that it was Google, couchsurfing and tripadvisor
5. Hotels, guesthouses, hostels, couchsurfing
6. Better game
7. A few flags. First one was on the second day, a 18 year old Russian virgin from Perm. It was her first trip outside of Central Russia. On the second day I was sleeping alone in my room and she just jumped in my bed the next morning. Pretty funny. Guess she wanted the western flag [Image: wink.gif] After that I eventually hooked up with a HK girl for the remainder of the trip, she joined me in some locations. Nice way to keep it fresh.

Traveling solo is awesome, everyone should do it, you learn a lot about everything.

Great thread Westie!

1) Brasil in 2005 (SP, Rio, Brasilia).
2) 3 weeks.
3) Savings.
4) Back then, there was not as much info as now and there certainly were no dating app at the time. Used google and used some language exchange site to pipeline a bit (even before that word was coined on this very forum! [Image: banana.gif] a girl that I'd spend a lot of time with over the years, even almost having thoughts of getting engaged to her. But those were the days of me being an uber beta. [Image: biggrin.gif] ).
5) Hotels.
6) Nothing in particular however, it was during that trip and specially towards the end of if that the seed of working for myself, being location independent and not needing a JOB entered very seriously my mind at that time.
7) Did I bang? Boy I did and so much and banging a Brasileira was such a life changing, shattering all previous preconceptions of what a woman was and what having sex with a woman was like! It was like I was born again! I banged to my hearts delights! [Image: banana.gif]

That single trip to Brasil, ended up being a life changing event. It allowed me to see the world on my own and without family to help as I had traveled before extensively but was always with family and or relatives. But this time, I had decided to go alone and to where I wanted. Like Turkish Rep, I had the hardest time making them understand why I was going to such a "dangerous place" as Brasil! Why couldn't I go to a safer place like most "normal" people? That is to England, France, Spain, Italy or Japan? LOL

That trip was what opened my eyes back then to uber superiority of foreign girls. That trip was also what changed my perception on NA girls and made question my desire to LTR or god forbid, marry one, as at the time, in my past beta years, I was in marriage hunting mood backed by heavy family/relatives pressure.

I've got a lot to thank Brasil for! Brasil, my true first love! You not only changed my life, but literally saved it! [Image: heart.gif]

1) Where did you go?
- Vietnam, all over it on a motorcycle
2) How long was your trip?
- 6 weeks
3) If it was more than a few weeks, how'd you cover that expense
- I own my own small business and have others who can handle shipping when I am gone.
4) How'd you research?
- Online, Tripadvisor
5) Where did you stay?
- Inexpensive hotels
6) What was the one thing you wish you realized before you left?
- Nothing major, that I could have packed a bit lighter.
7) DID YOU BANG? No. Not a goal.

Solo is the way to go for me. Pure relaxation, freedom to stay or go at any point. Sleep in, get up early, whatever the fuck I want. Sit and observe while I eat a bowl of pho, or get on the bike and haul ass.

That little village down by the river looks interesting? Double back and ride the dirt trail down to it and take a look. Up in the mountains on the Ho Chi Minh Trail, north of the old DMZ --- I may be the first Westerner to ever go into that small place. Interesting thing to think about.

An interesting place + adequate time + adequate cash + a good motorcycle + good maps = Freedom

For me, that feeling of freedom is a rare and valuable thing.

You are absolutely right, it's the same for me when doing a motorbike trip. You should check out 2 routes in Northern Thailand. The Mae Hong Son loop and the Golden Triangle route. Did em both, awesome driving and great scenery.

I love this part, my folks, friends and dumb co-workers would say this crap.

First time I went to Iceland (solo), co-workers asked me why i didn't go to Vegas instead. None of them have been on a solo trip and i doubt will ever go.

The funny thing is that some of them got to go to Costa Rica through work, the dudes came back with the biggest smiles you have ever seen. Being around feminine women that take care of themselves, obviously had an affect on them.

I was the dumbest travellers, taking with me all kinds of shit that I didnt need, buying new clothes instead of washing the old ones, flying to places that I could have taken a train to etc etc
5) Started out in hostels, then met girls and crashed at their houses for a while.

5) I did a bunch of everything, AirBnB, youth hostels, cheap hotels as well as nicer ones.
6) I wished I had known about the forum before going, that would have given me a lot of good info about the places as visited, as well on how to get laid ! Coincidentally, I learned about the forum in the Phil and read datasheets extensively.

Tell me about Your first trip SOLO

I remember that I was reading swooptheworld everyday at work and daydreaming about having similar adventures. One day I was like fuck it let's do this. I knew that this was far out of my comfort zone but I was really tempted and I had nothing to loose. Sitting behind my cubicle everyday was not making my any happier (I'm still sitting there today, lol) but now I know at least what's out there.

I also remember that people at work were calling me crazy and immediately pulled the famous "ohh so you are travelling there to bang hookers, good for you have fun". My friends did not understand me either.

Best thing that I have ever done in my life. I still cannot believe that I had the balls to do it.

I met a lot of people during the trip that I still have contact with today. Rooshers, bangs, and some possible business contacts for the future.

Booked another solo trip 2 months after I came home.

1) Where did you go?
Thailand - Bangkok
Phillippines - Manila, Cebu, Davao and Cagayan de Oro
Indonesia - Jakarta

2) How long was your trip?
5 weeks. A couple of days in each city.

3) If it was more than a few weeks, how'd you cover that expense
Saving up from my income.

4) How'd you research?
Found the naughty nomad and swooptheworld website after some random googling when i was bored at work last year. All this led me to this forum where I found out everything I needed to know.

5) Where did you stay?
Airbnb and hotels

6) What was the one thing you wish you realized before you left?
Bangkok is one of the best cities in the world for nightgame. Unfortunately I was relying too much on online game during this trip.
Went after too many re-bangs when I could have gotten new notches instead.
And the most important one,
That I have been living on the wrong side of the planet my entire life.

7) DID YOU BANG? lol
Yupp. 19 notches in 35 days.
