I know three guys (two doctors and a lawyer) pulling this shit off right now. They have a nice condo in a highrise here in Miami, the doctors do the STD screens themselves. They tell the girls they can never have done porn before , must be 18-22 and have state IDs. They fly them in put them up at a local hotel and have camera equipment, professional lighting, and full make up shower robes, sex toys and everything set up. They have a bullshit website that looks like a very expensive members only boutique operation with no real access or members. They get girls so eager sometimes they actually pull the "flyout to tryout" and only pay for the girls flight. They have been doing this for 5 years without a hitch. I only about know these guys because one of them went to law school with me. When he told me the scam I was amazed I did not think of it. They are in it for the fucking , not to make a profit. One of them is married, and the other two just do not give a fuck. All the equipment cost them less than $2000 and the rent on the place is $2500 a month split 3 ways. If I knew 2 dudes making decent money who could keep their mouth shut I would probably do the same.

Don't you still need the licenses for all of the "performers"? Even if it's a tryout.

I knew a guy in LA looking to try the same thing but he didn't want his name attached to the paperwork or risk solicitation charges.

Directed by two women, Jill Bauer and Ronna Gradus, who are from ABC News and whose previous effort was the 2012 documentary "Sexy Baby." Here is a description of that movie:

"An ex adult film star, a 12 year old girl and a 22 year old who yearns for "normal" private parts are chronicled in this thought provoking doc about how porn, social media and pop culture affect women and girls."

Both of these films seem to me like expanded episodes of "20/20," with their breathless descriptions of how women are being victims, ignoring much larger issues that we discuss here. I've grown weary of how the media picks a subject and stokes up hysteria.

I'll pass on what these two are saying about porn in their new film, thanks. I'm sure the moral will be that it hits women the hardest.

In this case, I'd say the film depicts the mother and cuck boyfriend being hit the hardest. The girl they focused on, "Stella May," is mostly shown to be owning her decisions and makes out OK in the end. The pimp guy is shown to be very blunt and open to the girls about the situation and what is likely to happen to them. The girls are all mostly portrayed as choosing their fate willingly, even if they have reservations or don't like certain kinds of performances. Many of the girls had a lot of nice things to say about the various men working in the industry.

There are a few things that I really found to be missing, though. The Stella claimed to have made something like $25,000 in three months, but after "expenses (rent, lingerie, manicures, makeup and biweekly STD tests)" had only $2,000 left. Would have been interesting to see a more detailed breakdown of that. There was also not a single mention of drugs in the entire documentary, that I can recall.

You just need an absolute rights paperwork stating that it is a "theatrical performance" and that the filmmaker retains all rights, and a copy of the proof of age.I am in Miami so I do not know what LA requires, but I do know LA requires condoms and a lot of their business came here as a result.

All of this sounds like it should be a plot to an '80s teen movie. A bunch of guys want to bed girls but don't know how, so they decide to open up a makeshift "porn studio" to do it.

Reminds me a bit of the ridiculous-but-oddly-cool "The Malibu Bikini Shop," which I recommend everyone should see.

Saw this, wasn't impressed.

I'm in a pretty crappy living situation at the moment so I've been locking myself in my room and watching documentaries from the documentary thread over on the Deep Forum (I highly recommend "Frack Nation", "King Corn" and "The Lightbulb Conspiracy" by the way). The aforementioned films all impressed me with the depth of research presented and with the way the narrators asked the relevant questions - the who, what, why, where and how.

Hamsters aside, I think what really annoyed me is just how slap-dash the whole documentary is. It feels more like a made-for-TV special than a proper piece of investigative journalism. The producers really squandered a perfect opportunity to give the viewer a warts and all (excuse the pun) look at the porn industry in favour of lazily following around a few vacuous skanks and hoping for some soundbites. It's hard to have any empathy for the subjects when we barely know them.

Why couldn't the makers have delved deeper into the girls' lives, particularly the 24 year-old one? What about discussing stuff like herpes and genital warts, which nearly everyone in porn has? Drugs? Depression? What about the male performers - they have stories to tell. Why not interview a few of the older, more experienced actresses - I'm sure a face-to-face meeting between these newbies and a leathery veteran lizard would have been good viewing.

Even the directing was crap - even as a complete novice there's no way I would have ignored the guy's old E46 BMW with the front bumper missing. Its once desirable, now battered appearance eloquently says more about the tarnished faux-glamour of the porn industry than its owner ever could. Nope, let's have another shot of Stella May on the phone instead!

Ultimately I was left angered and frustrated - not by the content of the film itself, but by the fact that something so poorly made is making such a buzz just by going for low-hanging fruit, while other great documentaries tell an important story and really make you empathise with the subjects only to languish in obscurity.

To be perfectly honest, I mostly avoid the hell out of all the female-centric sex-work documentaries. The all go one of two ways. they either frame these women as independent and empowered for having control over their bodies and doing what they want with them and making lots of money, or they are framed as women being victims of some corrupt industry that they had no idea what they were getting themselves into. I've yet to see one that frames the women as naive and misguided terrible decision makers with warped self esteem and no respect for themselves or their bodies.

I've known two girl personally who do sex work ... and I dated both of them. They are gross fucking people through and through. One of them cam from a broken family and didn't have the proper support system growing up to help shape her into a respectable woman. The other came from a typical middle class suburban household that seemed pretty stable but somehow wound up just being an attention whore who grew to fantasize about having a fucked up and degenerate life and decided to contrive one.

Neither of them are going anywhere worthwhile in life. The broken-home one is a stripper and a single mom now, and the other is dating some beta chump and spends her days hustling her webcam shit on social media.

I think the main reason I steer clear of those documentaries is because I simply despise that scene. I'm not saying I'm some saint I mean hell I watch porn, but I do not respect what those women do at all. I hate how delusional these sleazes are thinking they are so "empowered" using their bodies to make money off of thirsty men. Sex work is not glamorous - it's bottom-of-the-barrel work. It's selfish and shameful work. It's the "oldest profession" beholden to impoverished gutter trash of ye olde tymes.

Honestly that's the impression I got from this one. It does lean towards the "empowered" side but it's not entirely favorable.

But I wouldn't say that makes it worth watching. Ambicatus' comments are on point. There are isolated interesting parts with lots of boring time in between.

The reason the guy is driving a beat down E46 is he only gets 10 percent of the girls take.

None of them are making shit.

Bump.

Watching this as I type, this is terrible. They couch it in such a way that these girls are slaves. They are such self loathing POS.

The Texas girl is just a selfish, lost retard.

Silver lining, all dudes on the no fap thread should watch. If you knew these were the humans behind the characters/bodies, you'd have a much easier time making the mental shifts on porn. You're going to knowingly build a detrimental habit around these soulless rejects?

Nah, you got bank accounts to grow, skills to learn, places to conquer, and human women to bed.

I actually watched this about a month later due to recommendations both on and off the forum. It turned out to be exactly the kind of honest look at amateur porn that I wanted to see. The last sentence of my post up their basically sums it up.

My greatest nightmare would be to have a daughter and have her turn out doing sex work. I would feel so disgusted with myself as a failure of a parent, and her as a wasted youth. I would like to see a documentary where they explore the social repercussions of the industry. How these girls' families are affected.

'Her career as a porn starlet was glamorous and 'cool' when she was 20 and hot - but at 29 after thousands of sexual encounters she left the business because she had to do progressively more and more depraved acts to make ends meet and she saved nothing and developed a crippling meth habit and has to strip and hook to support her young son. Somehow all of this is the fault of sleazy pornographers and therefore all men and not the product of her own shitty decisions!'

The smart ones remember to pay their taxes and save, stay away from drugs, build a brand or just stick to cam work. There aren't too many smart ones. The porn industry isn't generally known to attract the best and the brightest.

Maybe I'll catch it when I'm back home but it's not high up there on the list. Does give me an idea, though...

- You and 2-3 game-aware buddies rent a respectable-enough space in a decent part of town month-to-month.
- Furnish it nicely enough but no need to go overboard.
- Rent some high-end cameras and recording equipment.
- Take it even further by printing off business cards with fake names and a fake production company (with a fake website) if you have the cash. Hell even draft waivers.

I'm not an American lawyer: what's a waiver, in this context?
