What's the party district of Medellin, Colombia? Looking to travel and game there in a few months after I graduate college but I want to be close to the action.

So is Poblado the place to stay?

I'm looking for the equivelnt of what Miraflores is to Lima.

I recently stayed in Medellin for an extended period. I highly recommend this studio apartment:

It is a 5 minute walk to Parque Lleras. It has a great grocery store across the street. It quiet and safe inexpensive with 24 hour security.

1000 per month a little steep for me, thinking something 600 or lower.

You can do better for 1k a month. Use a local company instead of reserving online. PM me if you want a couple of references to rental companies; you'll need to speak Spanish to work with them.

Another good option is this website http://www.espaciourbano.com/BR_BuscarAn...riendo.asp , which has listings from many different rental companies.

Poblado and especially Parque Lleras are a bit too fancy for me, I don't mind going there for a bite to eat in the early evening as they have good food and drink specials in decent restaurants, but by night the place fills up with too many gringos and hookers. You will see dozens, maybe even a hundred or so foreigners in Lleras on a Saturday night, many of them grubby back packers dressed like shit while the locals are usually dressed quite well, a bit embarrassing to be honest. That's not to say that you can't have a great time there, the clubs and bars are packed on the weekends with tons of people partying but I feel that there's better areas to go out in. I would much rather hang out in Parque Poblado (two blocks from Lleras) to smoke dope and drink guaro out of a box with some locals than hang in Lleras. Also, Poblado is one big fucking hill so you'll be constantly walking up and down it, not my cup of tea, I prefer the flat, more laid back area of Laureles and Estadio.

I agree that Laureles/Estadio is better. It might be a little bit too much culture shock for a first timer because absolutely no one speaks english there.

You can live one or two stops down the Metro from Laureles for about $300 per month furnished (like Floresta). You may not have hot water. But, you will be THE gringo in the neighborhood. This is good and bad.

There is plenty of information on the forum,,,,all you gotta do is read and use the search function. I am sure you will find a lot of helpful information.
As for party areas, there are plenty. Ones where gringos go and where mostly Colombians go. It's still a dangerous place. You gotta be careful where you go.

I always stay on la 70 near the Estadio metro, it has everything that I want: restaurants, cafes, gyms, grocery stores, etc, it isn't as upscale as Poblado but the bars are full on the weekends and its relatively safe. I'm not really into big night clubs any more and would rather just hang out at one of the small crossover bars on la 70, especially the ones that have outdoor sitting areas on the side walk.
