I read 10% Happier by Dan Harris who worked for ABC for a long time. He talks of how much of a total dick Peter Jennings was and how he played all these psychological games with the people he worked with.

I would tend to think guys at the very top of their profession are a little crazy by definition, even more so in news anchoring, where entire careers are represented by presentation and appearance.

This doesn't surprise me at all, though I wish it was more of a news story. He should be fired for this, but he won't, because he's too good at it.

Even better is how they all talk the same too. There is a style of "News Speak" they are taught in broadcast school which makes them talk like oratory drones with fake personality.

These News stations are so bare bones they don't even barley give them dry runs for the news anymore. Which is why many of the anchors sound so choppy reading the teleprompter. You used to do a test screen/brief for prior so you would know how to lead into things and segway properly. Now they just give them a story list and tell them to read to screen, and then yell at them in their ear to shut up and hurry when they have to cut to breaks.

But many don't even need commercial breaks as much anymore since many news agencies just get corporations to pay for news time/stories. The will make things called Video News Releases (VNRs) which are essentially like the paid glossy pages in newspapers that look like a real news story, but is obviously a advertisement, and is labeled as such. The only catch is that the TV News does not tell you that its a AD piece for a corporation looking to sell you shit:

This is a good documentary if anybody is interested more on media manipulations in the USA. It is called Spin (1995) and is made from a dude who recorded the raw satellite feeds from the old dishes back in the day.

It focuses on the lead up to the 95' election, and the party primaries and the spin, and lies both the candidates and the media were pushing. Just keep in mind this was made in 1995 and it has got more sophisticated since then with the media:

People involved in the disaster cleanup down there say that is highly improbable, as the hotel where he stayed didn't even have water up to the knees.
