This is good exercise. I'm working on a business and this made me realize that I'm basically combining several of my Tier 1 skills and monetizing them into a service that can help others. Maybe that's something you should think about?

Tier 1(This is what I think, I don't trust blue-bill friends/family opions too much)
Reading
Writing(Essays,Lyrics)
Academic Research
Humor
Reading people's inner states

Tier 2

Driving
Cooking
Computer(Mac) Repair
Improv Comedy

Tier 3
Game(lol)
Swimming
Car Repair
Excercise
Music
Learning Spanish/Japanese

I don't think you're thinking hard enough: What else do you like to do? Do you play any sports? What do you do on the weekends?

You're a barista? That's customer service, are you friendly guy who likes talking to people?

If you think about it for a few hours you'll probably some other things that you never even think of as talents/interests. Don't sell yourself short: If you don't believe in you, no one else will.

If you have the time and inclination, I think this would make for a really interesting thread/data sheet (i.e. how you learned to play that many instruments and compose music, and how other guys could get on track to do the same).

Not sure if it warrants its own thread, but here's my answer:

1. Music has gotten me more tail than any other activity/attitude/etc. I'd liken it to being super good-looking - it really gives you a solid foot in the door in terms of initially getting a woman's attention. That said, my love of music pre-dates my love of pussy, so the pussy is really just a side-benefit of my lifelong fascination of music.

2. There's the ongoing argument of "Should I fully immerse myself in music?" vs. "Should I learn a few chords/songs on YouTube, just enough to play a tune or two to impress women?" Both agendas are ok - and both are better than, "Fuck it - I'll just go play Guitar Hero instead!" I went for total immersion even before I realized it...I'd sit at the piano at age 5, fascinated with it and trying to "figure it out". My parents, having the wherewithal to do so, but us all (my older bros) into private lessons, etc. I began piano at 6, flute at 8. The year I turned 9, the Beatles came on the scene...and I immediately got a guitar - so now I was working on three instruments.

3. I played rock in high school; we had a vibrant music/backyard party scene in Pasadena - and we'd all compete to play the coveted kegger parties. The two most successful high-school bands at that time were Red Ball Jets (featuring one of my stoner buds at Muir High, David Lee Roth) and Mammoth (who later became Van Halen), so if your band sucked, it was easily apparent against rippers like Eddie & Alex.

4. My big influence in high school was Frank Zappa - it was him that made we want to REALLY understand music, and to major in music composition in college. I did my undergraduate in music composition, paying my way through school playing in cover bands - and picking up more instruments on the way in the process. I also admired those individuals would could play a shitload on instruments: Ian McDonald of King Crimson, Ian Underwood of the Zappa bands, Todd Rundgren, Prince, etc. I'd look at their instrument credits on their albums and be green with envy - I wanted to play MORE instruments!

5. After starving as a musician for four years after graduation, I went back to school to study finance and accounting - I've crunched numbers for 35 years now. That career has allowed me to continue focusing on my music without the pressure of "making it" or pleasing some suit who thinks he/she knows what "good music" is! It's also allowed me to accumulate and learn a lot of instruments over the decades, as well as continuing to study all forms of music, production, engineering, performing, etc. Here's my current list:

C Flute
Alto Flute
Bass Flute
Sopranino Sax
Soprano Sax
Alto Sax
Baritone Sax
Alto Clarinet
Oboe
Harmonica
Melodica
Piano
Hammond Organ
Synthesizers
EWI
Theremin
Drums
Bass Guitar
Guitar
Mandolin
5 String Banjo
Sitar
Lute
Lever Harp
Mountain Dulcimer
Wildwood Dulcimer
Hammered Dulcimer
Congas/Latin Percussion
Kalimba
Irish Flute
Shakuhachi
Vibraphone
Mallet Kat
AxiS64
This year: The Seaboard (waiting for it to arrive)

My advice? Dive in headfirst and learn EVERYTHING you can about music - know that it is a lifelong commitment; the more you know, the more you realize you DON'T know! [Image: smile.gif]
